A Review of the Rocky Patel Edge Lite Cigar
The Rocky Patel Edge Lite cigars are a great alternative to the original RP Edge if you want to enjoy the same medium to full flavor profile without the intense strength. It is recommended for the advanced beginner, as well as, the seasoned aficionado looking for a milder alternative to the Edge. The Edge Lite hails from Rocky Patel’s factory in Honduras.
In the cigar Industry, Rocky Patel ranks among the top 5 manufacturers. Most of his rating have been a 90 or above, showing his commitment to excellence and the popularity of his unique blends. Each of his cigars is put through a quality assurance test, which allows for a perfect draw and burn, and the Rocky Patel Edge Lite is no exception.
The 5-year aged Nicaraguan and Honduran Ligero filler tobacco is wrapped in an Ecuadorian Connecticut shade leaf wrapper. The filler being similar to the original Edge creates the same complexities of robust flavor.
The pepper and earthy sensations with touches of peat are still present; however, the shade grown leaf wrapper brings a creamy, smooth character to the blend and has been described as making the smoking experience mellower.
Rocky Patel Edge Lite is impeccably constructed. The cigar proves to have a smooth draw and provides a nice volume of smoke, with very little effort. The seamless, silky Connecticut shade wrapper is a nice brown with no flaws.
The burn is nice and even throughout the smoke, showing tribute to its exceptional construction. It comes in three sizes: Robusto (5 x 50), Toro and Torpedo (6 x 52), and the Double Corona (7.5 x 52). The wrapper is at the foot so make sure you remove it before smoking.
The Rocky Patel Edge Lite is crisp and smooth. At pre-light, the smell has been described as a tobacco aroma with a hint of light sweet molasses. Upon lighting, all agree, the taste is very pleasant. A mix of coffee and sweet ginger leaves a buttery texture in the mouth. It is easy to exhale from the nose, making it a milder side of medium.
A stronger woody flavor and ginger add a slight “tang” to the finish. The wood and ginger sweep into the second third, with coffee and toasted nut undertones growing to a medium strength. The last third is described to be a sharper charcoal taste, but if purged, the nutty sweetness and buttery feel return.
The popularity of Rocky Patel Edge Lite is no surprise, considering all the complex nuances of the smoke which delivers a long lasting finish. It is recommended that if you are a novice smoker, stay away from the larger sizes because the smoke can become overpowering after about 45 minutes.
Smoking it slow at the end will ensure that you will not lose the taste. This is a great every day smoke for all of you seasoned veterans.
As always Rocky Patel has once again delivered an exceptional smoke for all of us cigar smokers that have come to depend on RP to keep us smoking a diverse quality of smokes.
