It is common for wood in a building to come under attack, at one time or another, from creatures that are intent on burrowing into it, or eating the substance found within. The queen is the only one that lays eggs so if she could be killed off, the whole nest would eventually die off. Since termites dig long tunnels to find food, it was discovered that by laying down food in specific places, as opposed to pouring in the chemical barrier along the trenches, the termite could be tempted to take food from feeding tubes instead. Thus, once the food reached the colony, a lot of damage could be done.

This also proved to be successful for those buildings that had no garden to speak of, say those in city centers, which could still have these long feeding tubes drilled down into cement. They are very discreet and, with the top put on, they are permanent. Since the bait could be monitored by computer, the company would be able to see if there is any activity going on whenever it is checked. This system has been used around historical buildings and monuments across the US and is gaining in popularity all the time. This is mainly because, once in situ, bait can be added whenever it is needed.
