3 Steps to a Healthy, Happier You
Many men and women today work long hours and find it difficult to take time out to just relax. If you are stressed out by your job, skip meals to meet deadlines and you are find no time to enjoy life you could be heading for a health breakdown. You need to start exercising, eating right and socializing and make time for your family. Here are 3 ways you can be healthy and happy:
– Exercise: In this age of technology most things are accessible at the click of a mouse: –you can pay your bills and shop for almost anything online. As a result you may find that you are a little heavier than you would like. If you are overweight, you risk developing high blood pressure, diabetes and heart problems. You do not need to become a fitness freak; taking the stairs, doing chores around the house and walking will help. Of course regular workouts are best as they help raise immunity levels and keep the heart healthy while endorphins released will help reduce stress and enhance euphoria.
– Diet: To stay healthy and fit you need to regulate your daily calorie intake. On average, for men it is around 2500 calories and for women 1900. This will vary from person to person according to age, height, weight and how active you are. —You should make it a habit to eat nutritional meals and cut out foods high in cholesterol which is one of the main causes of heart problems. You should drink at least 2-3 liters of water a day as it helps flush out toxins. If you smoke, give it up and stop drinking alcohol, sodas and coffee, or do so in moderation.
– Sleep: Stay healthy by sleeping six–seven hours at night. If you work long hours and sleep little, you run the risk of falling ill as fatigue will lower your resistance. Sleep also helps your body repair and recharge itself. When you sleep, your brain releases a hormone called melatonin which helps regulate sleep patterns, boost immunity and prevents heart conditions. During the day, you should squeeze in some power naps – if you work, put your head down on your desk and get in a half hour of sleep sometime in the middle of the day. This will help you feel fresh and boost your memory and focusing powers.
Stress can affect your health in many ways so you need to find ways to relax. Meditation, massages, a long bath, hobbies, socializing with friends and spending time with family are good ways to relax and let go of all the stress and negativity that is part of our professional and personal lives. Get annual medical check-ups so that any ailments detected can be dealt with sooner rather than later. If there is a will there is a way and if you really want to, you will find the time to make the changes to help you stay healthy and happy.
