Dogs – Common Behavioral Issues

Dog obedience is something that can be quite hard to achieve. There are several behaviors of dogs that need to be controlled first.

Barking. Barking is one of the most irritating of the dog behavior problems. The noise that your dog creates will not only bother you and the people inside your house but it will also be annoying to your neighbors. The problem is even worse if your dog keeps on barking for no apparent reason in the middle of the night.

Knowledge of the possible reasons can help. Your dog may bark when it senses unfamiliar stimuli. The barking serves as a warning. Dogs also bark when they feel excited. You commonly experience this when your dog sees or senses you once you have come home from work. It will keep barking until you have come to it. This is also an example of dogs barking when they want attention from their owners.

Another reason why your dog barks is if it feels anxious. This can be brought about by unfamiliar surroundings or of a health condition. Also, there are some dogs who bark out of boredom. However, this last problem can be easily remedied by providing a good toy for your pet.

Chewing. This becomes an issue when your dog chews your furniture, your plants, or any part of the house. Of course, your main problem is the damage that this will bring to whatever item it chews.

This action can be a result of teething in puppies. Also, your dog might feel bored. To answer both of these causes, provide a toy that your pet can play with. It should be something that is durable and doesn\’t make too much noise. But also make sure that the toy won\’t hurt your dog\’s teeth and gums.

Disciplining your dog when it starts chewing something up is also an effective remedy. Make a loud noise or quickly get your dog\’s attention to make it stop what it is doing.

Digging. Learning how to stop your dog from digging can be simple if you know what causes your dog to behave that way. First cause can be boredom. Your dogs have nothing to do and in order to use up their energy, they proceed to the most convenient activity, to dig.

Dogs have the instinct to hunt for their prey. Although this behavior is significantly reduced as dogs are domesticated, they may still dig in search for their prey. Those who live in tropical regions or those that have warm weather, you might see your dogs dig a spot on the ground so that they may cool themselves. Lastly, dogs might want to hide their toys or keep bones and so they dig.

Separation anxiety. Another common difficult behavior that we will see in our dog is when it becomes restless, cries and even urinates and defecates in inappropriate areas after it has been trained when you leave them. As the main caregiver of the dog, your dog will feel uneasy when you leave or when it doesn\’t see you for some time.
