Get Fit and Save Money in the Process
Most of today\’s men and women could not be more conscious about how they look and feel, and when it comes to getting fit and maintaining fitness there are more than a couple of options. The two basic choices boil down to the decision either to do your workout at home or to join a gym. Many choose a gym for the simplicity that it offers. Others choose home for privacy and economic reasons. If home is your preference, you will more than likely want to look at options for purchasing your own workout machines. Buying new is not the only option. There are lots of great deals on used fitness equipment. In fact, when looking for fitness equipment elliptical machines and total gyms are not only very popular, but they are some of the best deals that can be found.
When you look for secondhand workout machines, make sure you consider several things. First, you want something that has not been overused or mistreated. But this really shouldn\’t be a problem because so many of these machines were purchased by well-meaning buyers, used for a month or two, and were then stored under a bed, at the back of a closet, or in the corner of the garage. They might need a little tender loving care, but most of them will be as good as new.
Another source of exercise machines that is often overlooked is the commercial market. Many times you can buy a commercial machine, the same one that you could find at your local super gym, for a fraction of its original price. Finding machines like stairmasters, treadmills, and stationary bicycles is not difficult. And these machines are normally in fairly good condition, because the gyms take good care of these machines and replace them before they are past their prime.
One of the most obvious places to avoid when buying exercise machines and hardware is the television. Maybe avoid is too strong a word, but caution and patience should be exercised when you are tempted to purchase that machine that will give you the \”six pack abs\” in a matter of a few short weeks, especially if the promise is that you only have to work out for a few minutes each day. That is not to say that there are no good workout machines available from these TV commercials. There probably are some good ones; however this is where patience pays off. If you wait until the machine has proven itself through performance and positive feedback, you may avoid wasting a lot of hard earned money. And waiting may also allow you to get that very same product on the used market.
There is one more option that you might want to consider. Again patience is a virtue. When you decide that it is time to get in shape, before you spend a dime, either for a gym membership or buying \”stuff\” to help you exercise, why not exercise without the aid of padded steel and weighted cables. It could be a simple thing like starting a walking program with some friends, or turn on some of your favorite music videos and dance around the living room every afternoon for 30 minutes. The goal is to establish some continuity. Exercise is a great thing, and exercise machines can add greatly to the experience, but if those machines are not used on a consistent basis they are not worth the investment. By starting simple you can prove to yourself that you deserve the help of padded steel and weighted cables.
