A Security System Can Reduce the Cost of Your Motorcycle Insurance

One of the most important parts of buying a new motorcycle is getting insurance for it. Of course, having to pay for insurance is also one of the most annoying things you have to deal with. Going without motorbike insurance is not an option for you though. However, there are many things you can do in order to reduce the cost of your motor bike insurance. Getting a security system or a lock for your bike is one of those things.

Unfortunately, there is not a “best answer” when you are looking for a security system for your cycle. We will review the most popular options below and share with you the pros and cons of each system. Even though there is no perfect answer, remember that having any kind of a security system is going to help you to reduce the cost of your insurance policy.

An anchor, lock or a chain is one option you have for securing your cycle. The good part of these is that they serve as a physical reminder to any potential thief that it would not be easy to steal it. The bad part is that these can sometimes be bulky to carry around. It is best to only use these options when you have it parked overnight at home. Disc locks are another option that you can use. These are much easier to carry around with you so it is easier to lock your bike away from home. However, you have to make it a point to use them because it is easy to forget about them. The bad part of these is that they are not really visible to potential thieves.

Tracking devices are another option. Although this likely would not stop a thief because they would not know about the tracking options, it will obviously help to retrieve your cycle and to find the person who was responsible for stealing it from you. You might be able to post a sticker somewhere on your bike warning a potential thief about the tracking system, but if someone is trying to steal it, they are not likely to stop and read the stickers. Getting an immobilizer is another option for adding security for your bike. These devices make it next to impossible for someone to steal it. The potential thief will also be able to see the immobilizer so chances are that they will walk past your bike and not give it another thought.

All of these options will help either prevent the loss of your cycle or it will help to track down and retrieve the bike. However the truth is that most cycles are stolen at home, not when you are out and about. The single most important thing that you can to in order to prevent your motorcycle form being stolen is to keep it in a garage overnight. It is even better if it is a locked garage. In fact, keeping your cycle in a locked garage is something else that will benefit you when you are shopping for insurance. If you can keep it in a locked garage at night and you get a security device, you will be able to lower your insurance rates on both fronts.
