Baby Names – Traditional Versus Creative

Deciding on the name of our baby is one of the most challenging and fun part of having a baby. Aside from all the preparations that you have to go through to make sure that your baby gets everything that he/she needs, you should also spend some time to think about what you are to call your little one. This is not really required but this is the best thing that you can do so that you can come with a good name for your baby. It would not be very impractical to think of the baby’s name the moment that he/she already comes out. So as soon as you already know the baby’s gender, you can already start thinking about his/her name.

Of course, you can go for the traditional names or the most common names. These are names that are very familiar to almost everyone and are widely used all over the world. Since these names are very common and have been used even so many years ago, people will seldom mispronounce or misspell them which is really good. If your baby is a boy, you can look into naming him as Robert, John, Patrick, Mark, William or Richard. But if your baby is a girl, Mary, Carol, Victoria, Catherine, Diana and Jane are just some of the traditional names that you can consider. All these names are really good but of course, you cannot expect that your baby will be the only one who will have such name. So if you want to look into your other options and you want a more unique name for your baby, you can be more creative and modern.

Although there is nothing wrong with using the traditional and common names, it is better if you look into something different. You can come up with your own name like a combination of your name and your husband’s name. You can take the first syllable from your name and then the first syllable of your husband’s name. It will surely be a unique name for your baby. You can also combine some other people’s name like your mother, grandmother, grandfather or even celebrities – it’s all up to you. You just have to make your imagination and creativity work so that you can create something great. Any name would actually do as long as it does not sound funny because other people may laugh at your baby’ name.

Aside from the traditional and creative names, you can also name your baby after someone in your family. The decision is actually all up to you. You can name you baby with any name that you want or after anyone that you want as long as it’s a decent name. Make sure that the name is special because you will only give it once and your baby will have it for the rest of his/her life. And of course, although you already know the gender of your baby, it is also best if you also prepare a name for the opposite gender just in case the baby is a boy and your were expecting a girl.
