If visiting the beaches of Hawaii rather than California is your preference, then the island of Oahu would be an excellent choice. It is the home of Waikiki Beach, famous for its surf and sand. But right off the beach there is the black lava rock of a silent volcano. Make sure that you plan to do some hiking while you are there. Hiking to the top of the volcano is not difficult, and it takes about an hour and a half to two hours, but the site that you will see when you get to the top will make you glad you put forth the effort. As you stand at the top of the crater, you have a full panoramic view that includes the Pacific Ocean, the beautiful beach, and Honolulu. As you view the surfers braving the famous waves of Waikiki beach below, you will create memories that will last a lifetime.

As you plan your trip, know that each of these places has different ways to entertain. No matter which one you choose, you can enjoy the sun, the sand, and the surf. Both of them also offer great places to stay and fabulous places to visit. Just make sure you plan well in advance so that you have all your bases covered, including lodging, travel, and any reservations for the venues you wish to visit.
