Do You Know the Symptoms of Leaky Gut Syndrome?
Leaky Gut Syndrome is difficult for health care practitioners to diagnose as many of its symptoms are also present in other more common diseases and due to the large breadth of symptoms of Leaky Gut, it is often difficult to tie it down to one single root cause. In addition, as most Doctors are not trained on Leaky Gut Syndrome in medical school their first response is generally to treat each of the symptoms individually.
Leaky Gut Syndrome as it is colloquially known is also called Increased Intestinal Permeability and occurs when the intestines become inflamed and irritated. This intestinal lining, when inflamed becomes compromised and loses its effectiveness in screening the body from the transfer of toxins, bacteria and other fungi. As undigested proteins, fats and wastes are transferred and “leaked” into the bloodstream this further exacerbates the problem. When more and more foreign bodies are transferred through the leaking lining of the intestines, the body’s autoimmune system goes into overdrive and starts to attack healthy cells in addition to the noxious ones not being able to differentiate due to the host of foreign materials. The symptoms that present themselves when this occurs include a host of gastrointestinal problems such as bloating, excessive gas, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion and cramping.
If the body is afflicted with Leaky Gut Syndrome there are several major organs that could be impacted and as these organs are gradually degraded in service and functionality their impairment can impact the body in significant and serious ways.
Liver Issues – As toxins enter the bloodstream, the liver which is the primary organ in the body working to remove contamination can become overworked and overloaded. The liver is generally the first organ impacted by Leaky Gut Syndrome and if the liver is unable to function correctly, more of the toxins return to the blood stream to re-circulate. As this process continues, the immune system also becomes overworked and exhausted and the toxins inevitably enter the body itself. Here unhealthy levels of bacteria can accumulate leaving the body susceptible to further infection and disease.
Adrenal Gland Issues – Adrenal Glands are small glands located on top of the kidneys and are vital components in the fight against infection. When Leaky Gut Syndrome is present in the body, they too can become overworked leading to adrenal fatigue which presents itself as excessive fatigue, the inability to cope with stress, a difficulty concentrating, poor digestion or a lack of refreshing sleep and rest.
As toxins in the bloodstream gradually build up through Leaky Gut Syndrome and through overwork of some of the body’s key defenders, the contamination can continue to grow and build up inside a host of other organs and tissues. Without treatment chronic inflammation in these organs can occur and an eventual degeneration of the organ itself leading to further complications including allergies, kidney disease, arthritis, Fibromyalgia and Candida to name just a few.
As you can see the symptoms of Leaky Gut Syndrome may be hard to identify because it includes symptoms from so many other illnesses. But if you are experiencing any of these symptoms it would be wise to look into it.
