Measuring For Windows
A window is an important part of any house. It does not only give a way for ventilation. Windows are also appreciated for allowing light to pass through whenever wanted. If you are planning to remodel your house, replace your window or purchase new window treatments like curtains, you will find the need for measuring the windows correctly. Below are the procedures and tips on measuring windows.
The Simplest Way of Measuring Windows
There are some things you will need for a simple window measurement. You will need a measuring tape, pencil and piece of paper where you can write down the measurements. A tailor’s tape can substitute for a measuring tape.
Measuring a window can be done by measuring the width first. One of the techniques to get the correct measurement is to measure different parts. For instance, you should take the measurement for the width at the top, middle and bottom part of the window. You can measure the height after the width. You can have someone hold the measuring or tailor’s tape at the top while you look at the figures at the bottom. Again, take measurements in different parts. Measure the height at the left side, right side and at the middle.
The Specific Way of Measuring Windows for Curtains
Before measuring, you should first decide on the kind of curtain that you want to have. By thinking of the kind of curtain you want to hang, you will be able to determine the length of the curtain. Normally, window curtains are categorized into three: floor length, cafe-curtains tab-tops. You will also need to decide on distance of the curtain rod from the top part of the window. Normally, curtain rods are placed about six inches from the top side of the window frame.
Again, you will need a measuring tape, pencil and a paper where you will write the measurements. Start from the location of the rod, which is six inches from the window frame. Have your measuring tape fall down vertically and write down the number based on your desired length. For width, you should allot two to three inches on both left and right sides. Again, you should take height and width measurements in three different points.
The Specific Way of Measuring Windows for Blinds
The window blinds are of two types. One is fixed in terms of size. The other is customizable and can be cut after purchase to match the specific needs of the homeowner. Before measuring any of your windows, you need to decide which one you will use. You will also need to decide what kind of blinds you want in terms of installation. There are blinds that can be placed in front of the window or within the window frame.
Again, you will need a paper, pen or pencil and a measuring tape. In fact, the procedure is much similar to the basic way for measuring a window. However, you need to consider where you will install the blind. Like in measuring for curtains, you will need to consider the rods in the case of blinds hung in front of the window.
