How to Extend the Battery Life of Your IPhone Or IPad
Technological gadgets come with so many responsibilities. Even if you take great care of your machines, you might still run into issues with using them. This is because in addition to being electrical, most of them run on batteries. And like most things that use batteries, eventually those batteries need to be changed. However, computer and electronic batteries are usually far more expensive than a few AA or even watch batteries. A computer batter can cost hundreds of dollars. Without one though, you are a slave to electrical outlets anywhere you want to work. Though most people think of iPad screen repair and iPhone cracked glass when they list their worst technological fears, replacing a battery is absolutely high on the list.
The good news is there are several things you can do to extend the life of your battery. You might eventually need to replace one, but over the life of the machine, you will need to replace fewer than if you abuse the battery. Start by knowing the steps you can take to extend the life and then try to practice safe battery usage. You will not always be perfect and using up battery life is not necessarily a life or death situation. However, the more frequently you practice responsible battery usage, the less you will have to spend on replacing batteries.
When you are not using a device, turn it off. Whether you are dealing with a phone or a Bluetooth shut it down if it is not in use. Likewise, shut off wireless connections. If you are somewhere that you might need to take phone calls, but you are not using the Internet on your phone, there is no reason to have it running it eats up battery life and puts your device at risk for hacking.
Turn off the locator services. These are the devices on your phone that let you figure out how to get from one location to another and they also track your phone. Most people rarely even use these services, so there is little reason to let it eat up battery life. A word to the wise, though, for parents: If you have concerns about keeping track of your child through his or her cell phone, do not allow them to turn off this feature. You can also turn off notifications. These are the updates provided by your phone that lets you know you are getting emails and other communication. If you check your stuff manually, you do not need to have on the notification.
Finally, utilize airplane mode. Instead of powering your phone all the way down, you can put it on airplane mode. It will still allow you to check the time and you will not need to power the phone all the way down, but it will reduce the power the phone is using. This is especially useful when you are in an area that offers no network access. There is no sense in draining the battery when you are unable to use any of the features.
