Gum Disease and Yor Family

Problems with our teeth and gum disease can easily date back to ancient times, and I am sure even before that. There has even been proof that Aristotle himself wrote about such problems.

He and Hippocrates both wrote about special remedies and ointments that would sterilize your mouth and fight these things. The vast field of dentistry has changed drastically since then and personally, I am thankful for that.

Despite the improvement of technology, the same issues with teeth and gum disease still exist. Compared to the old ways of doing things, like using a red hot wire or other barbaric tools, today’s advancements are worlds apart. During the 1800’s, they started improving the methods and tools.

Today, the tools and methods are so advanced that people choose to go to the dentist instead of waiting until they have a major problem. Gingivitis and Periodontics are two forms of gum disease that most people have to deal with.

If you choose not to go to the dentist, then the results could be severe. Now days there are two types of surgery to get rid of an infected area.

The first way to handle this is to simply cut out the infected area and grafting healthy tissue in its place. The next way is a little more complex, but still very affective.

You have to scrape the bacteria away from the surface of your teeth. The part of the tooth that touches the inside of the gums is where you need to reach.

By cleaning your teeth this way, you are making it generally healthier. A healthy tooth contributes in making healthy gums.

Gingevectomy is a general practice in cosmetic dentistry when dealing with gum disease. Gingevectomy is basically the removal of excess tissue around your teeth to make them look more proportionally correct.

Out of all the techniques they use, this is not considered to be the most effective. It just looks more cosmetically pleasing to the eye.

The most popular choice for getting treatments for gum disease is LANAP, which is a type of laser surgery. This procedure is the least painful of them all.

The laser that is used does two things at once. When the infrared beam hits your tissue, it gets rid of any effected area, and it sterilizes the same spot at the same time.

The dentist also uses a tool to eliminate root surface tarter. As mentioned before, the use of a laser along with new tools and techniques are by far superior to any of the other methods used to treat this problem.

One of the best things about LANAP is the fact that it’s virtually pain free. The majority of the patients that have this done do not need any medication at all for the pain.

For the few that do need medicine, regular over the counter drugs will do just fine. It is nice to know that with today’s technology we can easily keep our teeth and mouth disease free without it even hurting. Although this is a relatively new procedure, it is quickly becoming the standard.
