History and Benefits of Neuromuscular Integrative Action
Neuromuscular therapy has always been used in order to regain control over movement and flexibility by stimulating and working on the muscle tissues and the nervous system of the human body. It has been practiced for many years now and has gained popularity and was recognized as an effective treatment in relieving chronic pain and other medical conditions through the safer and non-invasive process. Massage therapies of all types and techniques have been constantly utilizing techniques that address neuromuscular conditions.
Neuromuscular Integrative Action is a systematic bodywork technique done in a workout approach to stimulate muscle tissues, nervous system, and other parts of the human body to properly function and perform at their optimum level. The whole idea of the therapy is to provide movement exercises for the patient or student to attain a healthy cardiovascular condition to prevent serious problems in the future.
The history of Neuromuscular Integrative Action or NIA can be traced in the early 1980s through the development of the healing and recreation method by Debbie and Carlos Rosas in an attempt to create a therapy combined with workout exercises. The discovery of the new technique gave birth to a new method that leaves the body fit and healthy due to the effort-exerting exercise and the healing benefits of the movement techniques. Aside from being a therapeutic activity, it is also fun and exciting to do especially when sharing the treatment with more than 10 people at the same time. Although it was originally used without accompanying the therapy with music on the background during the therapy sessions, the utilization of such modern devices is now being practiced nowadays.
The principles and practices of the therapy are a combination of aspects found in many different types of therapeutic and relaxing massage types and techniques. Among these are Yoga, Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique, and ethnic dances. Extreme focus is required during the therapy session which is usually done in numbers rather than in a one on one treatment session. Although the therapy may seem to be more of a workout program, it is full of health benefits and great effects to the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health of the students. Among the benefits of the therapy are improvement of posture, structural integrity, physical balance and coordination, release of muscle tension, adhesions, and build ups, increase in the flow of blood and oxygen, proper breathing patterns, and improved sleep. The therapy can also be used in treating various disorders such as the relief and eventual recovery from joint pains and problems, improvement on the range of motion and flexibility. It also helps relieve emotional problems such as anxiety and depression as well as mental stress and fatigue. The meditation process also helps reconnect the student to his or her inner self and find enlightenment and spiritual empowerment. In addition to those benefits, the student can expect to have a great shape after having regular sessions of the NIA therapy. A good instructor is capable of providing the proper techniques in order for his or her students to achieve all the benefits.
