Cornhole is a relatively simple to understand backyard pastime. It has been around for many years and developed strong followings, particularly in the Midwest. And while most players enjoy the game for leisurely fun, there are some players who take the game very seriously and take advantage of the competitive aspects of it.

There are many tournaments organized and played throughout the country. But the culmination of this competitive play is the King of Cornhole tournament. It is like the World Series of Cornhole. We’ll discuss more interesting details on this tournament here.

The King of Cornhole tournament is organized as an elimination format played over three days. There are five rounds in the tournament. Players who wish to participate in this tournament must either win or purchase a ticket through the American Cornhole Organization which sanctions and manages this event.

During the first round of play, up to 310 players participate. However the top forty players in the World are exempt from the first round of play and automatically advance to the second round.

For each round, players compete in four games. A perfect score for the four games is 84 points. The top 24 players in this round join the 40 top ranked players in the World and advance to the next round.

If a player does not advance to the next round he/she can play in an alternate challenge match.

The second Round is designed to have the 64 remaining players complete the best two out of three games in a single elimination format. The top 16 players from this round advance to Round 3.

In this round, the format is the same as in the previous. However the field of 16 players which start Round 3 get eliminated and reduced to the top 4 players.

And in Round 4, these players compete and end up with two finalists at the end of the round. They move to the Championship Round. This is the crowning event of the tournament and other players, fans and spectators are encouraged to attend and cheer on their favorite champion.

The culmination of the tournament is the crowning of the King of Cornhole. It is a wonderful and exciting end to this three day event. And it brings a serious flair to the game and encourages much more refined play and competitiveness. Tournaments like the King of Cornhole help to establish this sport as something which is fun, exciting and very competitive.

Although if you are not ready to compete in the King of the Cornhole tournament yet, then you might consider finding some more local cornhole tournaments that you can participate in. Local, and more low-key, tournaments can be a great way to give you a chance to practice your throw and compete again others.

And cornhole tournaments are becoming more and more popular as a fundraising game for non-profits. So you might want to check your local non-profit events to see if they are hosting cornhole tournaments. That way, you can practice and support a great cause!
