G. Harvey Paintings

G Harvey paintings are a staple in many American homes as well as Government buildings. He is a renowned artist, not just for Western art or portrayal of cowboy life art, but for American art.

Being raised in the rolling hills outside of San Antonio, Texas, he had a front row seat to the way life was in the West. Many would say that much of the inspiration for G Harvey paintings come from living there and being the grandson of a trail boss.

With a single glance at any number of G Harvey paintings, one can instantly see the way he uses light in his work. He uses it to bring life and drama to his work.

One is easily drawn to his paintings as it can transport the viewer to that time and place in America\’s past. His work is displayed in many of our Government buildings, in homes of Presidents and Governors, and many other prestigious people.

He was commissioned by the Smithsonian Institute to paint “The Smithsonian Dream”. This was done to commemorate the Smithsonian\’s 150th anniversary. So, to have any one of the G Harvey paintings in one\’s home is to have a piece of American history.

It is clear in all of the G Harvey paintings that he has a true love for what he does and for his country. Many of his portraits of America have the American flag proudly waving in the wind.

There is a sense of pride in his work as well. One cannot help but notice the way he portrays the American cowboy and their way of life.

There may not be as many cowboys as there used to be, but they live on in much of G Harvey\’s work. The pride of the cowboy way of life is easy to see as his work comes alive.

Whether it\’s a team of cattle being driven down the valley, or cattlemen making their way through the Texas mud in a torrential downpour, it is clear that these are the things that inspire his work.

He has also done a number of city scenes and scenes of American life as it used to be. Long before cars and SUV\’s clogged our city streets, there were horse drawn carriages, people walking, or on horseback.

This was a much simpler time. It may be as simple as a portrait of people shopping at a sidewalk florist, but his work makes it come alive.

It looks more like a snapshot in time with the light glowing in the background and the colors of the flowers that are so vibrant. He has also done a number of pieces that have bodies of water in them.

It may be a raging river or a calm stream, but the way he uses colors makes the water seem to take on a life of its own. He has also done a number of cattle drive pieces.

They may be trying to cross a furious river or forging down a dusty trail with dust plumes higher than the canyon walls. It is easy to get transfixed on his work and imagine what it must have been like during those times. It is also easy to see why his work has taken him to the heights it has, and why it truly is an honor to have one of his pieces in our homes.
