A Few Ways to Add Some Light and Colour to Your Home

We all get a bit fed up looking at the same old furniture all the time but what can we do about it? Going out any buying a new set of sofas or painting the whole place are big changes which cost a lot of money.

Fortunately, there are a few ways of brightening up any home which cost a lot less and which anyone can do. The best bit of all is that you can do these steps one by one, so that over time you gradually make your house into a brighter and more inviting one.

Add Some Art

If you want some art for your living room or kitchen then you don’t need to splash out thousands on well known artists. The prints which are available online and from a lot of supermarkets do a perfectly acceptable job of this. Even better is if you are going abroad on holiday this year and you can bring back something which no one else you know will have seen before.

Put in Some Plants

We all know that plants add life and vitality to any home, but you can also use them to inject a bit of extra colour too. If you have a conservatory or some other type of room which a lot of light enters then this is an ideal place for most plants. Otherwise, you might want to look at hardier species which can survive with less heat and light. Once you get started you will find that adding plants to your property is an addictive hobby which leads you on to continuously seeking out new ones all the time.

Find Some Ethnic Furniture

If you have even been to somewhere like Turkey, Morocco or South America then you were probably impressed by the colourful furniture sold in markets there. From fine Turkish rugs to Moroccan pouffes and chess tables from Peru and Bolivia, there are more things to tempt the traveller than can be possibly fitted into your luggage. The good news is that these fun items can now be bought in the UK as well. The internet is usually always the best place to look for things such as Turkish textiles and Moroccan pouffes, while the South American goods can sometimes be picked up in themed markets or stores in the big UK cities.

Reposition Lights and Mirrors

Cleverly positioned lights and mirrors can be used to add as much light and brightness to a room as prints, plants and Moroccan pouffes, although it might take a bit more work to get this right. It is all about shifting around what you have in order to get the maximum effect from it. For instance, maybe you have a lovely mirror which doesn’t receive any light or reflect anything interesting. This is particularly common in narrow hallways. By simply shifting it to near a big window in the living room you can make sure that it gets to work its magic and fill the room with the reflected light.
