Sensible Weight Loss
When it comes to the subject of weight loss many of us lose sight of what is sensible. We are so unhappy with the way we look we want a quick fix. This is a dangerous way of thinking.

Many individuals believe they have to starve to lose weight. On the contrary, your body will immediately turn the slightest amount of food into pure fat if it is starved. This is known as the ‘feast or famine\’ reaction of a body that is being starved.
It is advisable to start your weight loss with a visit to your doctor. It is your doctor who can determine if a particular diet is right for your individual circumstances. Your doctor will also steer you away from fad diets because they cause damage to your health. In order to choose a diet plan that is suited to you take into account all the diets (if any) you have already tried. Why do you thing they didn\’t work for you?
An important aspect to think about is if you prefer dieting on your own or if you need the company of other dieters. Nowadays, you could get the best of both worlds by going on a diet and then joining a dieter\’s internet support group. However, there are groups that provide support face-to-face on a weekly basis.
A very important consideration is your individual health and specific conditions such as allergies, diabetes or heart disease. If you have a health challenge then you need to go on a special diet. Even an individual who is morbidly obese needs a special care eating plan to overcome this life threatening condition.
It is good to accept that losing weight is not easy. Anybody would find it very hard to stick to an eating plan that was different and rigid. It may be a good idea to opt for a plan that allows some flexibility because it is varied and doesn\’t deprive you of certain dishes. Most dieters are happy enough to eat seeds, nuts, low-fat dairy, fruits, whole-grains, vegetables and lean meat and the odd indulgence like a pudding or cake every now and then.
A diet that is varied and flexible is one that can be used for life. Any diet that can\’t sustain your good health for life is a fad and not worth following. You will lose too quickly and put it back on (if not more) as soon as you leave the diet and eat normally.
The most sensible weight loss programs are slow but steady. They do not starve you and they do not recommend you only live on one or two foods for a specific time period. Even a weight loss diet that allows you to lose weight quickly must be medically supervised.
