Peyton Manning And The 2011 Fantasy Football Season

Tough luck for those of you who drafted Peyton Manning to your Fantasy Football Team. Four time MVP for the NFL, Manning got the job done last year with 4,700 passing yards and 33 touchdowns. Unfortunately Manning\’s ongoing neck injury is going to keep him out for the season. Hopefully your second string quarterback can do the job. But you may have even bigger worries than that. The loss of a star quarterback has far-reaching effects – things you might not even think of.

Picture, if you will, Reggie Wayne, current wide receiver for the Indianapolis Colts. If you happen to have him on your team, good luck. His stellar record – 1,355 receiving yards — is due, in large part, to the fact that Manning is usually the one throwing the ball. What’s going to happen with a less-skilled quarterback? Or even just a different quarterback? Chances are a lesser QB will choose the safer option and put the game into the hands of the running backs. Kerry Collins is a 17 year NFL veteran, who was the starter for the Colts with Manning injured. However, Collins was injured several weeks ago and Curtis Painter is now the starting QB for the Colts. Painter is entering his third year as part of the Colts Offense, however has struggled in his last three games.

If you have already drafted running backs from the Colts – think Joseph Addai, Donald Brown, and Delone Carter – thinking they would go to a running game in Manning\’s absence, think again. The running game has struggled and all three running backs are not producing the fantasy numbers this year.

However you look at it, if you chose Manning or any of the Colts players for your fantasy football team you better start looking for some trades.
