Best Caribbean Vacation Spots
Ah, the Caribbean – one of the world’s greatest vacation destinations. Islands, beaches, sand, sun, and rum. What could be better? If you have decided that a Caribbean vacation is your future, then you are a lucky individual. Now, the real tough choice is deciding which Caribbean locale is best for you. Here is a look at some of your options and the advantages of each:
The Bahamas: Here you will find some of the most inexpensive and least crowded beaches in all the Caribbean. That is not meant to be said that these spots are not in demand, but rather the islands cater specific to the tourists. The Bahamas are littered with resorts, casinos, and friendly locals. If you travel here without enjoying the area’s snorkeling and fishing, you are doing it wrong. However, this is where the cost escalates after relatively cheap travel compared to other islands.
St. Kitt’s and Nevis: The downside is that travel and lodging prices to these twin islands can be more expensive when compared to other Caribbean nations. However, if you have the money to spend, you may find this to be one of the most spectacular places in the world. We highly recommend staying at one of the converted sugar plantations over more touristy lodgings, as they provide a greater ‘island’ feel. This is one Caribbean island that is not known for its beaches, which are often underdeveloped. But diving tours of sunken vessels and ocean wildlife more than compensate for the lack of sand, if that is to your liking.
Antigua & Barbuda: Antiguans can make a legitimate claim to the Caribbean’s best beaches – . Short hiking tours can lead to some of the best views in the entire world. The island itself is the epitome of the Caribbean’s international reputation. If you enjoy an adult beverage, make sure to sample some of the island’s custom rum. Random cricket games throughout the area speak to the nation’s heritage as a British colony. Also make sure that you check out St. John’s Cathedral. This Anglican Church dates back to the 19th century and is one of the great triumphs of Caribbean architecture. If traveling to Antigua, we do hope you like reggae, because you will here in volume just about anywhere you go.
Jamaica: There is a reason that this popular vacation spot was the site for not one, but two James Bond films. Port Royal is an absolute must visit. This city was one the wealthiest in the world during the era of Caribbean pirates, only to be eaten by the sea during a devastating earthquake. Jamaica is also famous for some the greatest resorts in the region. However, some travelers may find the island to be too commercial and not authentic enough. Travelers should also be careful about one areas they visit on their own off of resorts and outside of tour groups.
Cocomo: You will get there fast and then you can take it slow, that’s where you want to go. …Just kidding!
