Trade Show Gimmicks
The word “gimmick” is often used in a detrimental way and indeed was frequently used to define something a magician would use to make you think something was different to what it actually was. In terms of marketing, the use of the word “gimmick” usually means something that’s a bit unusual which is used to persuade you buy something, or remind you of the name of a company.
As far as marketing, and in particular trade shows are concerned, a “gimmick” has been proved to work. Everyone likes them and the better the gimmick the more you are likely to attract people to your booth. The best gimmicks spread quickly by word of mouth, so if your company has a few gimmicks prepared for a trade show the chances are you will end up with plenty of visitors.
It’s important to remember that exhibiting at trade shows is expensive and gimmicks add to the cost; you need to be certain that your gimmicks are going to have the desired effect.
Free giveaways
There’s nothing better that people like than effectively getting something for nothing; that’s why trade show giveaways are popular, both for those displaying and for those attending. If you thinking of free giveaways take time to make sure your giveaway has some relevance to your company or the product or services your company offers. All giveaways must include your company logo and contact details. Don’t giveaway things that are too large or heavy, remember, your booth isn’t the only booth people will attend so you don’t want prospective customers weighed down so they can hardly walk. Items like bookmarks, pens, notepads, and desktop calendars are great things to give away as gimmicks. They’re all useful items that people can use and remember you by.
Live Presentations
People like a presentation or demonstration, but it has to grab their attention in just a couple of minutes, otherwise they will walk on by and your chance is lost. Set up a specific area in your booth where there is a constant presentational display taking place. Make the presentation easy to follow, interesting and short; five to 10 minutes is about right, any longer and you may lose their interest. Ensure the presentation gets straight to the point and like a book has a beginning, middle and conclusive end. When the presentation is over, take time to talk to your visitors, make them feel wanted.
Prize draws
Prize draws are fine, but you need to advertise when they are going to take place and the prizes must be of enough interest to make your visitors come to see them. Set up a few draws throughout the day; advertise the timings clearly on a board and give some indications of what can be won. Make sure every visitor puts their business card into a box as they come past. Ensure you start the prize draw on time; otherwise your visitors will leave to go elsewhere. Don’t empty the box after each prize draw; you can tell your visitors that if they didn’t win a prize that time they may do so later.
