Trade Show Accessories YOU Can\’t Do Without

Accessories, add-ons, gimmicks, or whatever name you prefer to use, are essential for you at a trade show. They are a great way to get people into your booth and if well advertised in advance will ensure you have a steady stream of potential new customers.

When you are working out the budget for the trade show, make sure you put aside enough money to cover the cost of any accessories. You already know that a trade show can be expensive, but adding a little extra to the trade show budget will probably reap rewards and pay for itself in goodwill and therefore new business.

Accessories can be fun, but don’t make then too gimmicky, as they may give the impression of being unprofessional. Attending the trade show is about advertising your products and services and giving a clear indication about you and your company’s professionalism.

Consider doing a few prize draws or similar events during the course of the trade show, but make certain that the prize has some relevance to what your company does. Remember, the prize is also a potential advert for your company, so you need to make sure that whatever you give away as a prize will be a reminder of your company to the winner. The prize is not so much about the value; it’s about the relevance and should provide a link between your company and the winner.

Don’t do a prize draw on the basis of handing out tickets. Get everyone who attends your booth to put their business card into container. This means that after the event, you have a substantial number of business cards that you can use as leads for new business. If you draw a card and the person isn’t there, put it to one side and draw another, so someone actually at your booth gets a prize. Perhaps when you get back to the office you can find another gift and call the person whose card you drew; it’s a terrific way to make contact because you can tell them they’ve won a prize and you can arrange to meet up.

Probably one of the easiest accessories you can use at a trade show is the free giveaways. However, always ensure they are small and light. No one wants to have to carry around something heavy and cumbersome all day. All your giveaways must be useful items otherwise your giveaways become throwaways, which is a waste of time and money. Consider the type of people that are likely to visit your booth. If they have mainly office-based jobs then items such as desk calendars are a great choice. If they move around a lot then consider pens, because everyone usually likes to have a pen in their pocket. Another useful and lightweight item is a quality bookmark; not one made out of cardboard though because they get bent and wear out quickly. Lightweight plastic is durable and isn’t something people will throw away without thinking.
