Ok so there are hundreds of articles about how to make money affiliate marketing other peoples products online, but I think this is the only one that talks about how to lose it. I\’ve lost, and continue to lose, thousands of dollars on different online programs and get rich quick schemes. I\’m pretty sure I could have bought a nice house with what I\’ve spent by now. I\’ve tried pay per click advertising, buying website traffic, and link building among others, but I\’ll just focus on these three for this article.

The first and I believe fastest way to lose money online is by using pay per click advertising. The number one provider is still Google Adwords. Now don\’t get me wrong, you can make a lot of money and sales just by signing up for an account and pumping thousands of dollars into an ad really quickly. The problem is the conversion rates. You will get a few sales, but if you\’re not knowledgeable about keywords and bidding, you will soon notice that the money coming out isn\’t anywhere near the amount of the money going in. So say you\’re paying 10 cents for every time a person clicks on your ad. That\’s a dollar every 10 people, and you might make one sale every 100. Not good odds in my book. You\’re better off playing the lotto.

Another thing I\’ve tried is simply buying website traffic. There are sites that claim to sell high quality traffic that they get from expired domain names. I won\’t say they\’re all rip offs, but in general, most sites that sell traffics are just putting your website on an autosurf, which is something you can do yourself for a lot less money. If they have rules about what you can have on your site, like the number of pop ups, watch out. This lets you know they are just trying to qualify your site for an autosurf. Autosurf traffic is basically useless, other than increasing your alexa rank, which doesn\’t mean much nowadays. You might get one sale out of a thousand autosurf hits if you\’re lucky.

I saved the best for last though, so you\’re not down in the dumps. The way to not lose money is through link building. Elbow grease and hard work. Surprise! You can write and submit articles, such as this one. There are also services that will do the work for you, if you have the capital available. Link building is a permanent solution, and eventually, you can use the excess money you gain from link traffic to purchase pay per click traffic. Since the money is no longer coming directly out of your pocket, you won\’t have to be so concerned about conversion rates.

The bottom line is just like building a house. Get your foundation together first, which are your links. Then once you have good position and rank, you can start your pay per click campaign. Follow this and hopefully you won\’t lose as much money as I did learning all of this.
