Vasectomy Reversal Defined
The high statistics being recorded on daily basis regarding the number of married couples who have an intention of breaking up their marriages is alarming. Currently, more than half the number of married couples are separating and the numbers are expected to increase in days to come. The startling idea is that whereas you might have agreed to have vasectomy with your current wife, you might marry another one in some years to come. This has necessitated the men involved to look for ways of reverting to the earlier status .One of the main reason for the men coming up with such an idea is in case he marries again. Other couples might feel that they need to have another child after the passing on of one of theirs, or in case they improve economically. Vasectomy reversal surgery is not a dream but it is a procedure that is available today. How does one go about it?
What is vasectomy? It is a minor operation carried out on a male patient where the vas deference tube, whose function is to transport the sperms from the testes to the male reproductive organ, is cut. Since it is a minor operation, the patient does not need to stay in hospital to recover but will have it done and he goes home to recover from there. Vasectomy is one of the birth control procedures that cannot be reversed so one has to be absolutely sure that he does not need to sire more children later in life before undertaking it. Most patients take about seven days to recover after the minor operation.
Vasectomy reversal: This means undoing the vasectomy process that had been carried out earlier. It involves an attempt to bring together the two ends of the vas deferens and link them to become functional again so that they can transfer sperms to the woman to facilitate fertilization. Though some patients have reported that the reversal was achieved, it is not always the case with everybody seeking these services. It mostly depends on the qualifications of the surgeon who had carried out the vasectomy and also the reversal process. This has made couples who have had this procedure fail opting for other methods in order to get a child of theirs.
There are various reasons that may lead to the failure of the reversal procedure. How old is the patient undergoing the procedure? The more advanced in years you are, the less the chance to succeed .It is recommended for those below the age of forty. The period that has passed since the procedure was carried out also determines the success rate. If one has stayed for a longer period of time since the procedure was carried out, it will be difficult to recover the fertility. This is because it might be difficult for the surgeon to get the severed tubes so it is recommended that one goes for the reversal the earliest time possible. There are antibodies which the body develops whose work is to fight the sperms. This happens gradually after the vasectomy so the longer time has passed after the vasectomy was carried out, the higher the likelihood of having many antibodies.
The operation can be costly to an extent of 10,000 dollars. This does not cover other charges like expenditure after the operation, laboratory fee, and the anesthesiologist. One should not have sex for a whole month after the operation .It takes some time to completely heal but the patient will be taking some painkillers to manage it. Medical insurance does not cater for the cost of the surgery. It is recommended that one should not keep the hopes high since one can only tell that the procedure was successful after conception has been achieved.
