Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial
Jaime Garcia Especial cigars come in six different vitolas. The Petite Robusto is 4 and a half by 50, the Robusto is 5 and a quarter by 52, the Belicoso is 5 and a half by 52, the Toro is 6 by 54, the Toro Gordo is 6 by 60, and the Super Gordo is 5.75 by 66. They have a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, Ecuadorian binder and Nicaraguan filler (from both the Garcia and Oliva farms).
A cold draw of one of these gems was described as being slightly sweet with a flavor of dark chocolate. The burn was even, and the reviewer liked the contrast between the darkness of the leaf wrapper and the solid white of the ash.
The flavor was described as charred wood, with molasses and dark chocolate, with a spiciness that first increased and then decreased again during the smoke. The cigar is also described as being of a good weight and consistently firm.
Another cigar reviewer says it tastes of earth and spice, and noted specifically a taste of cinnamon. This reviewer also said the slightly flaky medium gray ash held on well while being smoked.
It appears the Jaime Garcia Especial may have been reworked between the pre-release of the cigar and the regular release as there are reviewers who indicate there’s a fairly substantial difference between the two. The Robusto is described as being medium-full bodied, and a smoke that lasts an hour and fifteen minutes.
This reviewer also appreciated the earthiness and spiciness of the wrapper. This cigar reviewer called it a rich smoke, and it was stated that there were notes of leather and earth.
One cigar reviewer mentioned that differentiating between different flavors wasn’t something he was able to do. Despite commenting on that though, he gave the cigar a great review and thought it had great construction and burned very well.
Another cigar reviewer took on the Jaime Garcia Especial Petite Robusto for a review. He commented on the barnyard aroma and the nice, easy pre-light draw. The review went on to refer to the medium to full bodied pretty stout cigar.
It talks of the deep flavor of dark roasted coffee, with a woody, dry finish. It claimed to have a great, straight burn with tons of smoke, and a nice white ash. It commented on the construction and considered that quality exceptional.
A cigar reviewer who smoked the Belicoso said it had a sweet tobacco scent with notes of tea and fruit. They noted that the Jaime Garcia Especial smoked well and had plenty of rich smoke. It also refers to dark chocolate and toasted oat notes.
It seems there are some similarities between the vitolas, but enough differences that you might decide to try more than one. Maybe you prefer a specific ring gauge or a certain length for your cigar.
Whichever you decide to pick as your favorite, you’ll know you’re getting the Jaime Garcia Especial quality, and you can choose to stock your humidor with them either individually or by the box.
