The Many Facets of Dangle Earrings
Earrings are a major part of a woman’s arsenal of accessories. You can’t have too many earrings because they’re very versatile and fit a multitude of clothes and occasions. Some may come cheap and some may be expensive, but they can certainly bring to a life an otherwise boring piece of wardrobe. One of the most common types of earrings is the dangle or dangling earrings.
Dangle or dangling earrings are easily identifiable because they “dangle” or “hang” from one’s earlobes. They may be secured onto the earlobes via a stud (a thin post that goes through the earlobe and secured with a backing on the other side). Some dangle earrings come equipped with hooks so that you only need to “hook” them through the earlobes and there they will stay. Some hooks can also be “locked” with a stud, but most generally just hang by themselves. Though not usual, some dangle earrings also have clip-ons for those without ear piercings. Clip-on dangle earrings are usually very limited because they can’t hold up heavier weights.
There are also different types of dangle earrings – drop, chandelier, hoop or semi-hoop. Hearing these terms can be quite confusing but they’re actually easy to discern once you know what their shapes are. For instance, drop dangle earrings are called drop, because they literally drop from the earlobes and they hardly move at all. It may have a stone on the earlobe and on the other end (or on the drop). They’re very simple and are great for casual affairs. If the stones in the drop earrings are expensive, then you may use them for formal gatherings too.
Chandelier dangle earrings are a more elaborate alternative and they are so named because they resemble the grand chandeliers you see in ornate homes. They’re very glittery and sparkly, usually designed with gems and stones and are perfect for formal events. Chandelier earrings usually have several layers or levels instead of just one single “drop” which makes them seem heavier.
Hoops and semi-hoops are easily distinguished because they’re circular in shape. They may range from small to extremely large. The small ones may not look like dangle earrings because they’re really hugging the ear, which is why they are often called “huggies”. These are common for both men and women because they’re simple, come in many different thickness and sizes, and have many different designs or engravings to choose from.
Dangle earrings are perfect for people with short hair because they emphasize the neck and are easily visible as there’s no hair to get caught up in. When you do have to pull your hair up, they’re the perfect companion piece to a necklace as well because dangle earrings focus your eyes from the ears to the neck, if you follow the flow of the piece.
There are many dangle earrings available in many different stores. They can range from cheap to really expensive depending on the material, the design and if there are any other stones or beads included in the piece.
