Virginia Beach Tourist Attractions

Virginia Beach offers plenty of entertainment and fun for everyone in your family. We recommend that you take a drive here in the summer and see everything we have to offer. There is much more for the family to do than to just go to the beach. After all, lying on a beach after a few days starts to get boring. You should get out and see the other attractions available!

Top five attractions in Virginia Beach include the following:

Mount Trashmore

This great park gets its name from the fact that the site once was a landfill. It was filled in with top soil back in the 1970s. Now it is a very nice park and a place to take your kids. You also can go here just to relax. It is surely a better use for the land than a dump, don’t you think?

This park has lovely sloping grasslands, two lakes that have lots of plants that filter pollutants, a skating park for the kids, a play area for the kids, several courts for volleyball and a lot more.

Other fun at Mount Trashmore is all the different hiking trails you can try. There is a 2 mile trail, and also a lake trail that is 1.45 miles long.

The skatepark is enclosed and has 24000 feet of space. There is both a street course and a vertical ramp.

Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center

This is only a short drive from the beach and is a nice break from all the sun. When you first walk in here, there is a large pool full of seals. They are fed at 10 am and 3 pm and also they will perform a short routine at these times. This aquarium has many different habitats and exhibits that are easy for the kids to follow and understand. They are put together well for children so they will hold their attention for a good amount of time.

This site has a 700,000 gallon aquarium and animal habitat. There are hundreds of different types of fish that you can observe. You also will see turtles and otters, as well as sandsharks.

There also is a sting ray tank and you can even brush your hand against one.

Virginia Beach Neptune Festival

This is a yearly celebration of the culture of the town. It started in 1873 and tens of thousands come for the celebration each autumn.

Some of the events that occur during this event are sandsculpting, a regatta, a 5k run, and surfing. There also is a wine festival at Neptune Park, on the beach. The statue on the beach front of Neptune is 34 feet high and was added here a few years ago.

Hopefully you can come down to Virginia Beach on your next beach vacation and see everything the town has to offer. As you can see from the above, there is a lot more to do here than to simply lie on the beach and soak up the sun.
