An Ode to the Book

I start this little article quoting Wikipedia: “A book is a set or collection of written, printed, illustrated, or blank sheets, made of ink, paper, parchment, or other materials, usually fastened together to hinge at one side. A single sheet within a book is called a leaf, and each side of a leaf is called a page. A book produced in electronic format is known as an electronic book (e-book).”

The book, it is difficult to think about something that could be more important to us than the book. Can you imagine how marvelous it is? Can you imagine the world without it? Where would the humanity be? Where? Could the progress exists?

Fiction, non-fiction, albums, hymnals… There are a lot of books! Each one has its own uniqueness. Some of them makes this planet a better place to live, while others should have never been written.

A long time ago (maybe not so long), the books were just for a few people. But nowadays they are there for anyone who seeks them. And while in ancient one must read at a wood block print, today we have e-books! See what Wikipedia says about e-book: “The term e-book is a contraction of \”electronic book\”; it refers to a digital version of a conventional print book. An e-book is usually made available through the internet, but also on CD-ROM and other forms. E-Books may be read either via a computer or by means of a portable book display device known as an e-book reader, such as the Sony Reader, Barnes & Noble Nook or the Amazon Kindle. These devices attempt to mimic the experience of reading a print book.” E-book also have an simply great characteristic: they allow anyone to start their own library. With almost no space! Only a computer is needed, or a tablet, notebook. Even less: a flash drive!

A book has the power to make people travel to a lot of places and to live several lives. It opens your mind to the world\’s soul. Anyone just need the light to make the travel. Sometimes, even the light is unnecessary. The reading experience is really fantastic. A book can make you smile or cry. It can bring you hope, a lot of hope. It teach us how important is to register our thoughts and believes. It is a absolutely necessary tool to all developments we had since the cave times. It can save lives. And all we just have to do is to read it. Anytime you want, anywhere. And one of the best things about the book is that it will be with you during you whole life. Just like friends should be.

Next time you are reading your favorite book, think about how fantastic this invention is. Imagine the travel it made along the history, our history. And, please, be careful about the book. It really deserves respect and should not be treated as a disposal thing.

Get yourself a book! Enjoy it!
