Tips to Stay Fit Even While You Take Care of Your New Born
With a new member coming into your family, your hands are pretty much full as a newborn can keep you on your toes from morning to night. Most women exercise well during pregnancy which helps in an easy delivery, but what happens after delivery? There isn’t time to thread eyebrows let alone to do crunches. Slowly new mothers give up on wanting to lose those extra pounds.
Women feel that they are getting plenty of exercise taking care of the baby that getting back in shape seems like a huge task and over a time, is forgotten. What you must realize is that you still carry around some extra weight after your delivery. To get rid of this, you must exercise. Here are a few steps that will help you stay fit even after pregnancy.
Eat well but eat right
Mothers have to breastfeed their babies at least for the first few months and this means that they have ample nutrition intake for themselves as well as the baby. By eating smaller portions spread throughout the day, you feel fuller. Drink a lot of water, as breastfeeding makes you thirsty. Remember that your body has undergone a lot through the pregnancy, so begin slowly and allow your body to feel nourished.
Involve your baby in your workout
Working out doesn’t necessarily mean going through high intensity workouts. Just grab your baby’s stroller and head out for a long walk. That way you get some exercise while the baby gets some fresh air and sunlight. Also hold your baby against your legs as you do lunges, this also entertains your baby.
Get your family to chip in
At times its impossible to be everywhere at the same time and with a baby in your arms, it just gets tougher. So ask for help from family members when you think you need some time off. Get your husband to help you with some household chores and involve your older kids to help you with taking care of the baby.
Join post-natal exercise groups
It helps to meet people who are in the same situation, in this case, women who have also delivered babies. Meeting them allows you to exchange ideas and takes your mind off all the chores back home. Apart from this, you can also get to learn a few exercises that are low in intensity but aid weight loss.
Get good sleep
This is the most vital of all. No matter what you do, you would be up almost all day. So, find time and take a good nap or stick to sleep timings at night. A good night’s sleep can recharge your batteries and it also helps your body build back energy for the next day.
Once you do feel that you are getting back on track, maybe 8-9 months after your delivery, you could choose to enrol in a quick boot camp session to give yourself that workout adrenaline which can put your body back in shape.
