J Fuego Cigars

J Fuego cigars are produced by Jesus Fuego who is the founder of the company and president of the Tabacos S.A. in Honduras where they are produced. He learned his trade in Cuba where his family has been in the tobacco business for generations.

Perhaps what makes his story a little different than other current generations that are operating in the tobacco business is that he attended college in Havana, Cuba. There he received a Master’s Degree in Agronomy which is the study of things such as plant genetics and the science of soil.

He went on to use this information in making the harvest process much better for tobacco. This allows him to be able to focus on how to make the tobacco product even better without altering the seeds, but rather focusing on the post-harvest leaf itself.

The founder of J Fuego cigars then left Cuba in 1990 to go to Honduras. A little later, his work seemed to catch the interest of Rocky Patel, and he would then eventually become one who worked very closely with him. Together they would go on to create many popular blends.

However in 2006, the founder of J Fuego cigars would decide to introduce his own line. J Fuego cigars were born and his first two offerings were the Natural and Gran Reserva Corojo No. 1. Both of these feature multinational blends. The Natural has a Criollo wrapper.

The Gran Reserva offers up a Corojo wrapper. All of the tobaccos used in these two lines are grown specifically for these blends. The Natural uses tobaccos blended from three different countries while the Gran Reserva offers a blend from four different countries.

He often jokes with friends that these are offerings he made strictly for himself, but then he decided that perhaps he could share them with other people. That seems to make the winning combination of his success, which is his expertise and his ability to be humble and, of course, a sense of humor is mixed in as well.

Like many in the tobacco industry, he believes in the Cuban history of quality over quantity. Each stick is hand produced without using a machine. Mass production takes away from the craftsmanship that is employed at his factory, and therefore, he would never do that. This keeps these fine boutique offerings uniquely consistent no matter where you buy them or when.

J Fuego cigars have gone on to introduce other lines in the past years. Some of those offerings are: The 777, the 777 Corojo, the Origen, the Delirium, and Sangre de Toro.

Most of these are described as boldly flavored sticks that aren’t for the smoker who doesn’t like something that is very robust, however they have received rave reviews. It is said they are not overpowering but very full-bodied and would be appreciated by the veteran smoker who likes something a little more complex.

With a Master’s Degree and generations of tobacco making expertise to draw from, it is no wonder that these premium sticks are well sought after in the industry.
