Trglycerides and Good Health
If you are not a health nut then chances are that you have not heard the word triglycerides since health class but if you are currently going facing health problems this word may have been brought back to your attention by your doctor or health care provider. Let’s begin by learning what a triglyceride is and what its role in the health of your body is . . .
A triglyceride is a form of fat that is made naturally within the body. It is dispersed through the blood stream. Triglycerides help create and carry energy to your body and are a vital part of healthy living. Everyone has triglycerides in their blood. But if triglycerides are so vital to your health why is the doctor telling me that they are the cause of my health problems or a cause for concern?
Triglycerides in healthy levels ARE indeed vital to a healthy body and help you maintain enough energy to go about your day. The problem is when those triglycerides increase to unhealthy levels. Triglycerides in high levels can be indicative of other illnesses and diseases or simply lifestyle problems. If you have been told that you have a high level of triglycerides in your bloodstream your doctor will probably run additional tests or exams. He will want to check for the source of the increased levels inside your system. – Maintain a healthy weight and do not overeat or eat more calories than you can burn off
– Limit your intake of sugars and fats, replace with carbs
– Get active and exercise on a regular basis
– Don’t smoke. If you are smoker give it up once and for all.
– Avoid unhealthy alcohol consumption, nix it all together when you can
– Eat a diet high in carbs, at least 60 percent of your energy intake being from the carbohydrate family
In addition to these healthy lifestyle changes, there are other ways to reduce your triglyceride level through certain dietary supplements known to help maintain a healthy triglyceride level or to balance out one that has gone array. These supplements include omega 3 fatty acids which are found in fish oil and can be bought at any pharmacy inexpensively.
Omega 3 is also used to help treat high blood pressure, support nervous system health and promote heart health. Another supplement with these qualities is flax seed oil. Doctors recommend at least 3 grams per day of these oils to maintain a healthy triglycerides level.
