Chinese Acupuncture Practiced Around the Globe With Success

This ancient form of healing has been practiced for more than 5000 years in China. In the east it is considered a first choice option for many ailments. Nowadays many western civilizations have accepted its benefits with less skepticism and more people are turning to acupuncture for relief from muscle spasms, headaches and arthritis. Some conventional medicine practitioners are combining these two polar opposites and using them with success to heal their patients.

There are specific points spread over the entire body that are worked on when this form of treatment is practiced. The yin and yang balance is affected when the energy flow is interrupted in these various systems. Blockages occur when skeletal framework is misaligned; muscles tighten and go into spasm, bone joints become inflamed through arthritis swelling and overall stress tension tightening.

The 12 primary channels traverse the internal system connecting to major and minor organs. These channels are made up of different yin and yang flows. Depending on the ailment the needles will be placed to intercept the flow and open the blockages. Three yin flows which control the lungs, pericardium and heart start around the chest and travel down the arm to the hand.

Three yang flows in the hand that affect the large and small intestine travel up the arm to the head. The three yang channels in the foot control the stomach, gallbladder and bladder and their flow starts in the face around the eye and travels down the length of the body to the foot. Yin channels affecting the spleen, kidneys and liver flow from the foot up through the leg to either the chest or flank.

Knowing where and how to place needles and inserting them with care is the earmark of a reputable practitioner. All these channels connect and interact with one another. Often needles are heated before insertion or once inserted are covered with a special material that is set alight and placed on the needle to heat it.

Nowadays most modern acupuncturists are using stainless steel disposable needles that are sterilized with ethylene oxide. These needles are very fine and have a strengthened top section which serves as a handle.

Although acupuncture is widely practiced around the globe there are still many who question its effectiveness and demand exact scientific proof. For many thousands of other people its effectiveness is not questioned. It has proven to be highly successful in relieving adult post-operative and chemotherapy nausea and vomiting. Many other patients have reported positive results after undergoing acupuncture treatments for headaches, menstrual cramps, osteoarthritis, asthma and lower back pains.

Scientists are still out on whether acupuncture works or not. It is generally accepted that it is a safe treatment for many ailments. It is a method that encompasses a holistic approach to overall general health and body well being that aims to correct the flow of inner energy. However it is important that people should only consult with reputable well trained practitioners that are meticulous in the use of clean sterile needles as acupuncture incorrectly done can be harmful.
