Knowing the essential things you need to do at a trade show sounds fairly straightforward, but it’s always good to check them out before you attend. Forewarned is forearmed, so to speak, and you don’t want to find that having invested heavily in the trade show, you’ve made a few majors mistakes. It’s unlikely you will have time to sort out any problems during the trade show.

Always remember, a good trade show is probably one of the best promotional tools available and is a great source of new business as well as retaining existing business. However, a bad trade show can harm your company’s profile, lose business and cost a lot of money.

While success at a trade cannot be guaranteed, success is more certain by revising the important things you need to do.

– Do check the theme of the trade show is aimed at the products and services your company offers.

– Do make sure that there will be an adequate number of people attending. If it’s a regular trade show, have a look at past attendances and any other historical information about the show.

– Do ensure your booth looks professional and inviting. Your company name and logo needs to be clearly displayed. A precis of the products and services your company provides needs to be visible to people passing by.

– Do check the lighting works and is effective. Your booth needs to be bright and colorful so people are attracted.

– Do write notes and contact details of people you meet. If you don’t it’s inevitable you will forget and that result in lost business.

– Do follow up any leads. It’s easy to put the details to one side, once the trade show is over, but remember the point of the trade show is to attract new customers and get new business.

– Do select the staff you intend to take to the trade show carefully. They must be able to deal with the public, have plenty of energy and know everything about your company.

– Do rehearse with your team in advance of the trade show. Make sure they know what is expected of them.

– Do make sure that your team avoid alcohol and spicy types of food the evening before the trade show. They are going to be face to face with many people during the day.
