Five Drinks That Are Not Good For Your Body
There is nothing like a cold, tasty thirst quencher on a hot summer day. A sip of your favorite fruit flavoured drink can just rejuvenate your spirit. But all these colored, artificially sweetened drinks are so harmful to the body that they can cause heart disease, addiction or even osteoporosis. These beverages have replaced water and milk in the diets of so many children that it is a growing health concern today.
Here are five drinks that are not good for your body.
Soft drinks: Carbonated soft drinks contain a large amount of sugar that can cause tooth decay and also regular intake of these drinks causes obesity in the long run.
Studies say that soft drinks are high in High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) and can cause diabetes if consumed in excess. Because of its side-effects, many schools have banned the sale of carbonated soft drinks in their cafeterias.
Diet colas and other diet drinks may be 100% calorie free but they are still harmful to the body with side effects like kidney damage and ironically weight gain.
Energy Drinks: Today energy drinks are consumed by almost everybody because of their euphoric and active effect on the mind and body. From late night party goers to college students studying in the night, everyone consumes at least a can of this drink. But there are harmful ingredients causing this alertness. A single can contains caffeine and large amounts of sugar which increases a person’s stamina and keeps him awake and alert.
A lot of people also mix alcohol with their energy drinks that can cause dehydration and heart attacks.
People who are into outdoor fitness like trekking or mountain climbing prefer to drink energy drinks or sports drinks instead of regular water because of the taste and salt present that make them feel hydrated all day long.
Juice drinks: No matter how much the canned juice companies claim that the juice is made from real fruits, the truth is that they are not. The only real fruit juice is the one you make at home. These juice drinks are high in calories and have a lot of added preservatives, artificial sweeteners and corn syrup. So all that you are actually consuming is sugar, added vitamins and artificial flavorings.
Flavored Water: Flavored water is a favorite alternative to regular water. But it is as harmful as any other drink as it has equal amounts of sugar present and with its sweet taste, people tend to drink more of it which is extremely dangerous.
Coffee Drinks: When you drink coffee alone you get a caffeine kick or buzz. It is one of the most addictive drinks in the world. Now imagine a mixture of caffeine and sugar rush put together in a single mug. Those are the ingredients you will find today in fancy coffee drinks like a cappuccino or whipped icing with coffee.
These drinks are high in sugar and calories and cause more harm to the body if consumed regularly. Caffeine alone causes insomnia and increase in blood pressure. So before spending hours at the coffee shop, think about the health risk you put your body through.
