A Review of the EP Carillo Short Run 2011
The EP Carrillo Short Run 2011 series is produced by Ernesto Perez-Carrillo who is best known for the famous La Gloria Cubana cigars and his EP Carrillo Company. He uses many different types of blends that combine tobaccos in new and imaginative ways from various countries that ultimately provides a complex flavor profile not often seen in other cigar manufacturing endeavors. His Cuban-seed tobacco from the Dominican Republic works well with Nicaraguan tobacco and the results are the medium-bodied cigars that feature rich and creamy flavors.
This series is just one of many that are planned to be launched this year by the company. There are plans to make another five cigar offerings available to the general public this year.
This fine cigar sports an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. The binder is Nicaraguan and the filler is a combination of Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos. These stogies are available in three different vitola or sizes:
– Bombones: 4 7/8 by 50
– Canonazos: 5 7/8 by 52
– Inmensos: 6 1/4 by 60
If you draw before you light it you will notice a woodsy type taste along with a little spice and a touch of fruitiness. After you light it up with one of your favorite cigar lighters, you will notice a taste of charring similar to what you would find on a steak.
There is also the strong flavor of pepper that right from the first. The next flavor that hits your palate is the very pleasant taste of cedar.
This will remain as notes of nutty woodsy flavoring become apparent. At first this nutty taste is accompanied by a very smooth buttery flavor but by the end of the first third of the EP Carrillo Short Run 2011 series, this is the dominant taste.
The second third of the EP Carrillo Short Run 2011 series offers something that most cigar smoking connoisseurs that are familiar with this brand would not expect: floral notes. The nutty flavor was still the dominant one but the floral notes stayed in the background throughout. The cedar wasn’t nearly as noticeable and was nearly completely replaced by the peppery taste that leaves a sting in the mouth such as pepper usually does.
The draw and the burn of the EP Carrillo Short Run 2011 series is excellent and aficionados report it may only require a couple of touch ups throughout the smoke which is excellent. The draw is unanimously reported to be perfect throughout the life of the cigar from initial light to the nub.
The EP Carrillo short run 2011 series cigar starts out as a medium but ends up more as a medium to full bodied offering. It is a rather complex smoke as well.
All of the reviews were extremely positive and each added that this was just another wonderful brand from a man that has been known to produce the best cigars for years. All of the reviewers say that they would recommend this stick to their friends and family and that they would definitely be stocking their own humidors with a more than one of these.
