The Six Best Fat Loss Supplements Part 2
In part 1 of this article, we explained why multi-vitamins/minerals, fish oil and fiber are in the list of the 6 best fat loss supplements. In this article, we’ll discuss betaine HCl, magnesium and probiotics.
Betaine HCl
Betaine HCl is a supplement that helps you restore optimal levels of stomach acid. Many functional medicine doctors believe that as much as 98% of the population is deficient in it. There’s a simple way to test if you’re among those 98%. Just Google “Betaine HCl challenge test” and follow the instructions. By restoring your stomach acid, you’ll improve your digestion (which we know is critical to fat loss), and prevent or relieve a number of chronic diseases (like diabetes, osteoporosis, anemia, and others).
If you’re taking supplements or medications, but you don’t have the necessary chemicals to break them down and absorb them, they’re as good as useless. Having adequate amounts of stomach acid will help you get the most out of your food, supplements and medications.
Very often, if you have insufficient levels of stomach acid, you’ll retain water, crave more food, and allow pieces of food to sit in your digestive system undigested. All this contributes to fat loss resistance, fat gain, and multiple chronic conditions.
Magnesium
Magnesium has so many functions in the body and affects fat loss in so many different ways that it could fill up a book (and it has, just look it up on). But for the sake of brevity, it has two beneficial effects that I’ll discuss here. For one thing, magnesium is essential in helping you balance your blood sugar. The more stable your blood sugar, the better the environment for fat loss. It helps you minimize insulin spikes and/or drops, which can wreak havoc on your body, and put on belly fat, and love handle fat. Magnesium also helps you increase your energy through various mechanisms, which will enable you to exercise with more effort.
Probiotics
Probiotics are friendly bacteria in the gut that help improve your digestion. Dysbiosis is an imbalance between “good” bacteria and “bad” bacteria in the small intestine. In intestines where “bad” bacteria predominates, it can cause bloating, water retention, and other unpleasant, and possibly embarrassing side effects. It will also cause some nutrient deficiencies and imbalances. Probiotics help you restore the balance between “good” and “bad” bacteria. This helps you prevent nutrient deficiencies, which can halt fat loss. Probiotics really vary in quality, so you want to get probiotics that are rich in the lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidobacterium strains. You want a potency of 30-50 billion. And you want something that is protected against moisture, heat, sealing, etc.
There you have it. The 6 best supplements for fat loss. Having listed those, please don’t forget that medications may interact with these supplements, so clear it with your doctor, or better yet your nutritionist to see if these supplements are right for you. Also, please understand that these are supplements. They are not substitutes for good nutrition, exercise and a healthy lifestyle. They are an addition to them.
