Alec Bradley Maxx Cigar Review
The Alec Bradley Maxx line is one of the many premium offerings from the company founded by Alan Rubin in 1996.
The Fix is the 5 by 58 vitola in this line. One reviewer agreed emphatically with the big size and bold flavor claims he had read about this stick. This robusto’s wrapper is a smooth and dark Nicaraguan tobacco that feels like silk with a just a little bit of veining.
The pre-lit stick is often described as firm with barely visible veins. After lighting with a torch lighter, this stick is noted for tons of smoke. Early in the first third, it presented itself with strong woody and leather flavors while added depth emerged as some lighter, spicy and sweet notes appeared.
These faded somewhat in the middle third leaving the leather and wood notes dominant, while the final third is notable for the return of the spiciness in the smoke, though the woody and leather flavors remained the predominant ones. Some cigar smoking fans have also reportedly found coffee and cocoa flavors.
Another Alec Bradley Maxx cigar is The Freak, which is 6 ⅞ by 60 and is presented as a medium to full-bodied smoke. It has been described as being reminiscent of an aged St. Louis Rey, or a CAO Criller.
This is a full-bodied smoke that some say remains on the low end of full while others warn new smokers away from its strength. The ash was speckled with gray and black, and it held on well to about an inch and a half. Just don’t light one of these up if you don’t have time to linger over it-make sure you have enough time to finish as you won’t want to waste it.
One smoker noted that this stick is in his personal top five, and was particularly looking forward to trying them again after the Alec Bradley Maxx The Freak sat for a while in the humidor. The Maxx is another Alec Bradley smoke that has been described as being like its Cuban relative. Some especially enjoy this stick as an after dinner smoke, while another recommended this smoke for cigar smoking aficionados rather than newbies with undeveloped palates because it is such a powerful smoke.
The Traditional Toro at 6 by 50 is yet another Alec Bradley Maxx cigar. It also has the oily luster of a fine cigar, but at least one of them had some veins and a bit of color inconsistency. These minor imperfections do not affect the quality of this stick.
This smaller-gauged cigar is medium-bodied with a great draw. The flavor profile even includes meaty and salty flavors at different points in the smoke, but if you do not like chocolate, be warned. Chocolate is said to be the primary flavor.
Smokes from both the Alec Bradley Maxx and the Maxx Traditional lines have Costa Rican binders and blended fillers. The regular filler is a tobacco blend from Honduras, Mexico, Columbia, and Nicaragua, while the Traditional has a blended filler from Nicaragua, Mexico and Honduras.
As with most of this company’s offerings, the quality to price ratio is outstandingly good. Visit our online cigar shop today to order yours!
