Making Room For What REALLY Matters

After the holidays, many shoppers load up their carts with storage bins, shelving systems and color-coded containers, all in a determined campaign to get organized for the new year.

For many, our demand for \”stuff\” has surpassed our ability to buy sufficient space to hold it all. Over time our stomping grounds, especially if they are smaller ones, have a tendency to accumulate and collect all kinds of treasures, gems and keepsakes, otherwise referred to as \”junk\”. It has been stated that one person\’s trash is another person\’s treasures, but ones dwelling space can only hold so much! So it is no wonder self-storage is one of the leading growth industries in the United States. How many storage units are being rented just to house bits and pieces?

The truth is, the more we collect, keep, and hoard, the less we value each item. When we keep adding without subtracting, we create a space problem and we can\’t possibly see [or appreciate] everything we have as we have way too much!

So many of us deal with clutter that it may seem like a humorsome fuss. But it can easily take its toll on us both emotionally and physically. And, when something is no longer serving us and the person we are today, the very nature of clutter is that the clutter is actually holding us back. The approach is to behold and love each material thing for a spell, and then because there is so much more to receive, to set it free.

There are some of us that tether \”stuff\” because it represents who we think we should be, rather than who we are. Sometimes our flight of fancies are meant to impress others; sometimes they\’re relics of our past; sometimes they\’re daydreams about our future.

Whatever the case, it\’s important to remember that collecting doodads for our fantasy self doesn\’t make it a reality. Most of the time, it only leads to a lot of \”approved\” hodge-podge we never actually use.

Trying to de-clutter all at once can be overwhelming. It may even demotivate you! Instead, take five or so minutes, and tackle one task. You\’ll feel better, and your cranny will be looking good! The best part is dealing with the mess will begin to take hold, be less daunting, and a bit easier. And, combined small steps will lead to big improvements that will be easier to maintain over the long-run.

PS: Success is mine! I just emptied all the wastebaskets around my abode. And later I will put away the holiday decorations. My go for it now to-do list carries a maximum of three.

Remember, we don\’t have to follow the rules for living that we didn\’t create. And, we do not have to live out a life that we do not like.

As we recognize what matters most to us, it becomes apparent in our reality and life becomes [how do I put this] remarkable! So, decide what is most [and truly] important to you.

The new year is a time for renewal and a time to reflect on the past in order to assess what\’s pertinent. So, clear some space to have more, not less, of what you want in life. And, may this coming year be you\’re happiest and most fulfilling one yet.
