Local College Life and the Zipper
If you\’re in college, there\’s lots of official information everywhere although none of it is that user friendly or incredibly exciting. Let\’s not blame the authors…they\’re generally school employees and academia isn\’t exactly known for pizzazz except for the occasional school of fine arts and all bets are off there. You can always find schedules, calendars, and the rudimentary information you need for a successful scholarly career (assuming you can get up in the morning) but there\’s so much more to know. That\’s where the Zipper local news app comes into play. Let\’s take a look.
It\’s Friday night and you\’ve caught various noise about parties going on for the night. This is usually word of mouth (even via text or email) which is funny in itself since we humans have used the same method for centuries albeit not for college parties but you get the picture. Now introduce the Zipper local news and local gossip app. Let\’s say you want to check out the Greek scene. Some entrepreneurial college kid has created a Greek Scene Location. It\’s basically a smart phone message board about parties, socials, and events going on at your school Greek college scene. The great thing is that it\’s not static. As things change (party was shut down, location moved, after party at a new location, etc) the Zipper updates in real time so can literally follow the night\’s events in real time. That\’s how it should be. You\’ll even get pictures of the event as it\’s occurring including a few that probably shouldn\’t have been taken but hey…that\’s college. Of course, there\’s more to college than just partying (so you tell your parents) and the Zipper is there to account for that as well.
What if you\’re picking out your classes and you have to pick between one professor for Micro Econ and another. You can\’t tell anything by just looking at the online or paper catalog besides the class descriptions which are identical. What the catalog doesn\’t tell you is that Professor A (to protect identities) is incredibly obtuse and confusing in his teaching style not to mention rich in the ability to absolutely bore you to tears. Turns out that Professor B can actually make Micro Econ bearable (notice we didn\’t say fun). He also is a little more lenient on the grading which is important to you since econ is the only business class available this quarter to you as a photography major. You can\’t get any of that info from the catalog. Zilch. Colleges are exactly screaming out, \”Hey, watch out for Professor A…he\’s a NIGHTMARE!\”. Now, before the Zipper, you might have a friend who\’s taken that particular class and garnered a head\’s up prior to choosing. Then again, you might (and probably) not have. You\’re stuck making a huge decision on zero info. Not very smart for a college (almost) educated scholar such as yourself. Bring in the Zipper. Another forward thinking student (maybe you) might have created a \”Professor Skinny\” section on the Zipper within your School. You can now pull up a teacher and/or course and check out what other student\’s have said about him. There might even be past material or info available that can be helpful. Even real-time updates on quizzes, due dates, and requirements. It\’s all right there. The real information that every college student should have but has gone without. All in real time.
You can quickly see the potential for arming yourself with real time information for both fun and work with the Zipper local news app. Now that\’s power!
