Window Tint

Window tint has been around for as long as the concept of having panes of glass to look out of has been around. Many years ago, newspapers were used to line the panes of glass so that the sunlight was blocked out.

Plastic was used to make the glass a little warmer as well as keep out some of the sunlight as well. Cardboard, fabric, aluminum foil and just about anything that one could imagine has been plastered into a pane of glass at one time or another to serve as a window tint or weather protection.

At one time window tint began being made as a film that was merely dyed to a dark shade. This worked out relatively well, but the problem was that these earlier types of film weren’t very durable when compared to the ability to withstand extreme temperatures, whether those temperatures are extreme hot or extreme cold. However, these were extremely affordable and pleasing to look at, so they remained the norm for many years.

Then the manufacturers of window tint began to make dyes that contained specific amounts of metals a few decades ago. These were much more durable and more resistant to the extremities in temperatures that are sometimes experienced form one geographic area to another.

This was definitely a step in the right direction because it allowed the pane of glass to reduce its thermal intake or heat by nearly twenty-five percent more than just ordinary dyed films that did not contain any type of metal in the dye.

Today the technology has advanced quite a ways for window tint production. It now contains the same dye and metallic materials, but it also has crystalline oxides incorporated in the dye as well.

This allows the durability to be superb as well as it giving the film the ability to block a major portion of the infrared rays that are emitted by the sun. These are the prime suspects for producing heat. When a room is desired to remain cooler while still having plenty of light, this type of film definitely provides both in a big way.

Panes of glass receive three types of rays from the sun and those are ultraviolet, infrared and light rays. Ultraviolet rays are radiation that cause a lot of health problems for human beings, including cancer.

Light rays of course are what people rely on to be able to brighten a room, and infrared rays are the source of the heat that is felt from the sun, whether it is shining through the panes of glass or it is shining directly on someone’s face on a beach.

The new technology allows for the light rays to still come through without the harmful effects of the ultraviolet rays or the heat that comes from the infrared rays.

This is extremely important to anyone who wants or needs to keep a room cooler, whether it is to reduce the cost of cooling bills or it is to protect a product or item that is inside the room from the more harmful rays.
