Eko-fashion, What Is It?
During the last years the ecology has reached enormous importance. The man began to take interest in what he eats, breathes, what drink, what to wear, what environment surrounded him. Everybody and everything are permanent interaction between each other and with the environment in which they are. Science of ecology has become especially important about1960. This is primarily due to the emergence of computers. Another reason for popularity of ecology is the public interest in environmental issues, awareness of how close related man and his environment.
Probably the fashion least progressed from the ecology side (it is still in start-stage) because clothing designers and manufacturers are rarely inclined to choose eco-extracted tissue. The new millennium marked significant changes in people\’s lifestyle and in fashion and trend as well. Eco-friendly and natural fiber clothing is one of the hottest trends in the world of fashion. Many fashion designers have already adapted according to “Green” fashion tendencies. They switched to renewable materials and energy. Eko-fashion – clothes and accessories that meet eko criteria. It is a clothing design and sewing, taking into account the environmental, consumer and health workers who produce clothes in healthy working conditions. If the workers are paid only pennies for their work or if they are children it will not be eko fashion. Clothes and accessories are usually made using organic raw materials, such as cotton and bamboo grown without pesticides, silk that is produced naturally by feeding silkworms, wool which comes just cutting sheep and linen fabric which is made from flax fiber. Also Eko-fashions could re-use materials such as recycled plastic from old bottles. Eco-friendly clothes are made to last, so that people can keep them for longer. Eco-fashions don\’t involve the use of harmful chemicals, pesticides, bleaches or unfair labor, bad working conditions.
Rodriguez, Donatella Versace, Calvin Klein, Alexander McQueen and Richie Rich, Stella McCartney, Diane von Furstenberg – it\’s just part of the designers, who in their latest collec-tions of clothing were happy to include hemp or bamboo. However, one other designer is de-termined to show a larger and adventure collection on the podium only from organic fabrics. For example, Norwegian designer Leila Hafzi already in 1997 introduced her first collection of clothing at promotion of ecological ideas, and successfully doing so far. She uses only nat-ural fabrics and eco-friendly paints that do not have any negative impact on the environment or garment carriers. Such collections are new approach to fashion. Within the last years the market for green fashion is expanding rapidly. http://Theecologist.org presented young designers of green ethical fashion whose clothes are making a real difference. Debra Hepburn Director of Young British Designers, said: ‘The world is changing, the world is gaining a new ethical heart. The way, in which a brand conducts itself, the way in which a brand cares about people and planet really matters now. People are switching off the grossly self-indulgent, manically commercialized, massively anonymous money making concerns and are moving towards the genuine, the honest, the ethically led brands that share and are utterly transparent. Where once using recycled materials was a start, young labels are now sharing ideas and practice in sus-tainable production. The entire supply chain is being considered with care and intent and throughout it all people are being treated with respect and fairness. It seems that ethical is going to become the only way in which any brand can be acceptable and desirable”.
The trend toward designing, manufacturing and purchasing green fashion is increasing with each year. Each year there are new designers, enthusiastic who like to experiment with natural materials and sustainable manufacturing methods, who present a new collections and “green” ideas on the world\’s catwalks. Designers and manufacturers have a combined responsibility to ensure that people can wear nice, originals, healthy clothes.
However the biggest problem encountered: the fact that the development of eco-fashion is a luxury. “Green” collections are not sold in usual stores. Eko clothes and accessories are luxury goods. When they will be accessible to the ordinary user, then it will be possible to speak convincingly worldwide about \”green\” fashion.
On the other hand, well-known worldwide clothing chains such as Marks & Spencer, Gap, H & M are offering clothing collections produced without harming the environment, made of organic fibers and under the principles of ecological. Of course collections are not very large. However, ordinary people have the opportunity to buy eco-based clothing. It is a big step forward in the field of environmental protection and human consciousness.
Organic fashion includes not only apparel manufacturing and procurement processes. In fact, there are many factors that determine the environmental awareness and actions. Eco fashion is an easy way to make a difference to the environment.
