If you just love motorcycling, surely there aren’t too many things that bring you more joy than sitting on your motorbike, feeling the air rushing past and just taking off for a weekend for a big long ride. In the winter you would be all decked out in your cold weather motorcycle gear, so who cares if the rain or snow is falling, you can be feeling cozy and warm. Make sure you have proper riding boots and protective pants, as most injuries occur to the bottom half of the body. The pants should be reinforced at the knee and hip, and if choosing jeans make sure your choice are reinforced rather than normal jeans. Boots are so important, thick leather with a sole that flexes with the foot, but still has protection across the top to avoid any crushing. Choose carefully all the items you need, including the jacket, gloves and of course a comfortable helmet, as well as saddle bags and storage equipment for the bike. Quality leather motorcycle gear is always a must for good protection.

Ladies I know we are inclined to overpack, but keep in mind how much weight the bike will take, and pack lightly and wisely in the saddle bags which are a must when traveling. A helmet is vital for your safety, but make sure that it is made of good quality material, as you need to value function over style. There are some very smart leather motorcycle gear jackets and bags etc on the market especially on the net so there is plenty of opportunities to look individual.

Where to go probably isn’t a problem, just the time to be able to ride as often as you would like, but if you are stuck for ideas there are motorcycle touring tours which you would find on the web, and they could be lots of fun, and a great way to meet people with the same interest as yourself.

Now we are ready for take off, and the question is where to? As all of life is really a big adventure, every ride probably turns out to be just that very thing. Sometimes things go to plan and other times we stumble on things that are a challenge, but life can be a bit boring if we stay in the easy lane always. Not suggesting we become reckless!

Staying overnight can be anything from a motel, to sleeping under the stars with the old trusty kit bag rolled out, to a fancy five star hotel with all the amenities of shower and laundry etc. Surely the ideal adventure accommodation is camping, in a camping ground, hiring a caravan, or bringing your own small tent and rolling out the swag. Whatever you choose you will need to put a bit of effort into the planning side of it before you begin your journey, as a bit of research and proper gear selection will go a long way towards a comfortable night’s sleep.

Adventure motorcycling is a unique mix of planning, riding, exploring, camping and solving any problems which may occur along the way. It can be a way of seeing some of the amazing places and sights in this wonderful country, or some of the most wonderful places on earth. You may also meet some like minded interesting people as you travel around and make lifelong friends with them.

Whatever you do, ride to the conditions of the day, wear good quality cold weather motorcycle gear in the winter, travel at sensible speeds, enjoy your ride, and return home safely.
