Appreciating the Development of Solar Power
The past eight years have brought about many recent improvements and inventions involving the development of solar power. It is known as the new “green” form of energy.
As people began to promote protection of the environment, solar power was supported even more and great developments have been made. In 2001, the Powerlight Corporation installed the largest rooftop solar power system available in the United States.
This 1.18 megawatt system was installed on the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, California. All of the buildings in this complex were designed and built to combine the energy-efficient new technologies and construction practices as well as the renewable energy technologies available for a net zero energy building.
In other words, these buildings were designed to conserve enough energy that the buildings could produce enough energy to provide for itself. This was partially an experiment to successfully create buildings that could supply their own energy while being cost effective.
This would allow future buildings to be constructed without a need to rely on non-renewable energy forms. In 2002, the largest solar power facility to date at this time could produce 38.7 kilowatts.
This facility was known as the White Bluffs Solar Station. This station finally went online in Richland, Washington in 2002.
As the years passed photovoltaic research, development, and improvements continued with renewed force. New materials, cell designs, and new approaches to solar power development have also continued steadily throughout the years.
Clothes and cars have even been developed that can collect power that both protects the environment by not harming it and can be used to power our every day electronics. These research efforts and improvements are expected to continue with even greater rigor throughout the next decade.
It is predicted that fully concentrated solar power with be incorporated with conventional power generation technologies more and more throughout this time. The potential of solar power as the primary source of power for the Southwestern states is tremendous.
It is comparable to how much the Northwestern states could rely on hydropower as their primary source of power. For example, it has been calculated that a desert area that is 10 by 15 miles dedicated to gathering solar power could generate 20,000 megawatts.
It has also been predicted that enough power could be created by a desert 100 miles by 100 miles dedicated to solar power to power the entire United States. If the sun’s rays were concentrated even further, the power that could be collected in that area would be even larger.
It is expected that improvements and development in this area will allow solar power to compete in price with other traditional forms of energy generation within the next 10 years. It is also expected that it will be used to electrolyze water and produce hydrogen for fuel cells both for transportation and buildings.
Solar power has a fantastic future ahead of it and an incredibly long past behind Viagra Professional it. It’s use is almost as old as humanity itself.
The Greeks and Romans were a prime example of harnessing the energy of the sun to warm homes and water. Their architectural designs not only allowed the light to penetrate their buildings, but the warmth they captured to be preserved for as long as possible.
The first person to actually create a solar motor was Auguste Mouchout. In 1861, Mouchout became successful in creating a steam engine that was powered by the sun.
Throughout the rest of the 19th century many European scientists became intrigued by the potential for solar power. France and England hoped that the technology could be developed enough to power their colonies in Africa and East Asia.
John Ericsson of America finally created the ‘parabolic trough collector.’ This piece of technology revolutionized solar power and continued to be used for more than one hundred years.
Later, in the 20th century Albert Einstein made many new advances in his research concerning the generation cialis plus of electricity through solar cells. Then, in 1953 Gerald Pearson, Daryl Chapin, and Calvin Fuller from Bell laboratories all created the first silicon solar cell capable of generating a significant electrical current.
This was measured by the fact that the power generated was finally measurable. The impact solar power has had on our lives has been tremendous and it will continue to grow in the future.
The mystery of solar power is finally starting to be unlocked and harnessed by the scientists, researchers, and great minds of our day.
