How to Paint Your Wooden Bunk Bed

Whether you like it or not, painting the wooden bunk bed of your kids is a must and should be done in case signs of chipping or peeling paints are visible. Painting works is required not only for its added visual appeal to an object but also for its protection against rotting and decay. In addition, it also helps prolong the longevity of the wooden material which will give you a cost effective product in return. Fixing paints is usually caused by children who are have peeled off or chipped the paint during their play time.

Painting your wooden bunk bed is quite similar to any other painting works inside and outside the house. All you need is the right materials and the exact amount of the stuff you’ll be using for the project. Do not purchase excessive amounts of paint materials as these will only be wasted. On the other end, buying small amounts of the product will also leave you with insufficient paints.

-Prepare Wooden Bunk Bed – clean and clear the bed as much as possible to make the painting area more comfortable for working purposes. Do not work with the bed mattress, pillows, railings, blanket, and other stuffs on the bed. It would also be much better if you do the painting and preparation work outside of the house. However, you can also perform this inside the room by simply putting newspaper beneath the bed and on several surfaces and objects to avoid getting stains from the painting material.

-Peel off Existing Paint – in case you need to do a repaint on all of the areas of the bed, the first thing you need to do is to get rid of the previous paint on the object. This can be done using a utility knife to peel off the paint on the bed. You can also use paint thinner to gradually eliminate the old color on the surface of the bunk bed. Make sure that you have left no spot on every corner and area of the object.

-Sand the Surface – after getting rid of the previous painting material coated on the bed, the next step would be to sand the surface of the bed. This can be done using various textures of sandpaper. Purchase coarse and fine surfaced sandpaper that will be used to sand all over the bunk bed. This is done in order to prepare the surface of the bed for the painting works.

-Apply Primer – after you are through with the sanding works, apply the primer to initiate the first coating of the bed. After you are done with the primer, coat the bunk bed with your preferred color and repeat the painting process until you are satisfied with the thickness and texture of the paint. Make sure that the surface is even and smooth before you finish the project as this will be unpleasant to the sight and touch. Inspect your work afterwards and see if you are successful with your coloring job.
