How to Access a Patella Pain Syndrome

Early assessment and diagnosis of an injury is very important in order to prevent additional damages and bigger problems in the future. Although many of us would not accurately detect a problem, the signs and symptoms will however allow us to tell that something is not right with a specific part of our body. There are many ways on how you can identify a fault on our body with or without the help of a medical professional.

Patellofemoral pain syndrome or PFPS is very common among athletes who runs and jump with great speed and force. In the event of these activities, the knee falls into the wrong position and tends to provide difficulties with every movement especially when bent backwards to a greater degree. PFPS is quite easy to heal though; in fact all you need is rest and some rehabilitation programs that are effective. However, importance and proper care should always be followed in order to successfully pull out a good recovery process.

When it comes to the assessment of an injury, most of the questions are quite basic and can be answered by any average person. Health history is also checked in order to determine if the cause might be due to genetic problems or accidents. In cases where doctors are not present, the patient himself can determine the problem just by telling the signs and symptoms.

-Pain – as soon as you feel pain on the kneecap area, most probably you will have fewer choices regarding the specific problem of your knee. When it comes to patella pain syndrome, you don’t need to be hit by something or crash on any stuff in order to get the injury. Improper placement of the knee when bending back and going straight tends to give any person difficulty in moving.

-Observation – postural problems while standing and sitting will tell irregularities in case you have this type of injury. You don’t have to be a therapist or a doctor to tell that your lower limbs are not similar to each other. However, it would be much better if you get a second opinion from your doctor in case your knee area is not feeling well.

-Palpation – usually done by placing the hand on the affected area, a medical specialist can tell if there are problems on your knee.

-Function – you can also test the functionality of the affected area. A normal body part would function properly even when resistance is applied. However, an injured one would have a hard time even without resistance. Applying resistance on the other hand would completely disable the ability to perform.

-Range of Motion and Flexibility – this is a practical yet very effective test to check the condition of a possible injured body part. Try on moving the leg by bending it backwards as far as possible and try on straightening it out again. You can also try on twisting your lower limb to see if there are no problems with your knees. In case pain is eminent, most likely you have an injury.
