Using recycled paper was one way an office would show its green credentials in the last years of the 20th Century. In the 21st Century there are many other ways that an office can now go green.

An office needs to identify which products take precedence over others, but are the must haves in any green office are paper, envelopes, folders and printer cartridges. These are the first items to consider buying when deciding to make an office more environmentally friendly. Recycled products, in terms of quality, are now excellent, so there should be no concerns about buying an inferior product when trying to lessen an office\’s carbon footprint.

Recycled paper is available from both green and non-green stationers and can be used for a number of different purposes, including printing and copying. Recycled card can also be bought and be, like recycled paper, either in white or colour. Recycled notebooks are another green office must have. For offices that use diaries, then these, too, can be bought recycled and ready to use.

Available in a diverse range of sizes and colours are recycled envelopes. The envelopes can range from small, which are suitable for posting letters, right up to padded envelopes and board stiff envelopes, which are suitable for posting heavier items. Recycled re-use labels will often be available to buy with the envelopes.

All types of recycled folders can be purchased for an office, including presentation binders, report project files and items for conference meetings. Popper wallets and carry folders can also be bought.

Recycled printer cartridges are available for all the famous printer makes. Cartridges are bought already filled with ink, which eliminates the sometimes messy job of trying to refill a cartridge yourself. The cartridges can be bought in black or colour ink. Recycled laser toners are available to buy for laser printers. Recycled printer labels are another consideration, as regards printer-related products.

All aspects of an office can be made greener. Environmentally friendly mice and mouse mats can be introduced into an office and there are green products that can be used to clean office computers. Storage media can be environmentally friendly in novel ways, including a bamboo USB flash drive.

Other items that can make an office greener are recycled/sustainable pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, pencil sharpeners, rubber bands, recycled highlighters and recycled permanent markers. Additionally, tape, sticky notes, staplers, scissors and punches are all possible to buy with the environment in mind. Recycled wooden letter trays and even recycled calculators further prove the diversity of the type of green office products that are available.

An office set on being green should begin by purchasing the must have items before further deciding how to make the office even more environmentally friendly. An office should also think how best to dispose of its waste, too. This can also be done in a green way, by using recycling bins. Creating a green office isn\’t difficult and it should actually be enjoyable. It also won\’t do an office\’s reputation any harm either.
