– It\’s expensive. On the contrary, energy deregulation actually enables you to pay less for electricity. This is one of the biggest advantages that everyone should jump on. When the retailers compete for your patronage, they tend to do things to incite you to choose them, one being lowered prices.

– I have to switch off my power and wait for the technician to come when I switch services. Actually, switching happens between the retail energy providers and has nothing to do with the customer. You don\’t have to manually shut off your power and wait for your new retailer\’s technician to come by and turn it back on. When you change providers, Retailer A just informs Retailer B that they are now your energy provider and the process just takes 48-72 hours. You won\’t even experience a power outage when it happens because they are selling the same product, they just have different brands.

– I hate having to deal with rude customer service people. Unfortunately for some companies, this has become a trend, but it doesn\’t have to be with the deregulated market. With energy deregulation comes consumer choice. Like what was mentioned above, companies will vie for your business any way they can and that includes sprucing up their customer service. Some people value customer service more than the product or the price and the retailers know this. If you don\’t like a retailer\’s service, you can just switch to a better one!

– I don\’t want to use fossil fuels or anything that will harm the environment when I use electricity. Good thing for you, energy deregulation allows for power source options. Companies are obligated to divulge information to the consumer about where they get the energy they sell to you and what kind they are. So you being a stoic environmentalist can choose retailers that buy from power sources who use natural gases, wind and solar energy, and the like.

Remember that you\’re the consumer, you\’re the business. Making the right and informed choice is the toughest step to take so take your time and weigh all your options carefully, exploring them today may just make your future brighter. Literally.
