Overview of the Akiles CoilMac-ECI Coil Binding Machine
When it comes to coil binding dozens to hundreds of books a day, few machines are able to hold a candle to the Akiles CoilMac-ECI. This heavy-duty coil binding machine is an affordable manual coil binder that includes the luxury of an electric coil inserter. This machine can be used to bind custom reports, presentations, cookbooks, scrapbooks and more. While this machine is popular, is it the right machine for you?
Akiles is well known for their book binding machines. Popular models include the WireMac, Megabind, Rubicoil, iCoil and CoilMac. Each of these machines have slight differences, depending on the look you want, the amount of books you would like to bind and your budget. Regardless of the machine you get, you will be surprised by the sturdy build of Akiles.
The CoilMac-ECI is currently the best selling coil binding system in America. Why is that? As mentioned earlier, the build quality is impressive. The CoilMac-ECI features a metal shell, metal chassis, metal gears, metal punch handle and everything seems to come together well.
This coil binder punches paper using a 4:1 pitch (0.250\”) hole pattern. That means that the CoilMac-ECI punches four holes per inch of paper. While coil binders are also available in a 5:1 pitch, the 4:1 pitch continues to be the most popular hole pattern. Each hole is 4mm in diameter. Supplies are affordable and readily available. You should be aware that 5:1 pitch supplies will not work with a 4:1 pitch machine and vice versa.
The CoilMac-ECi has an impressive 13\” binding width, where many comparable machines barely reach 12\”. Because it has an open binding end, it is easily to keep punching larger sheets of paper up to 26\” long. This really opens the door for a variety of custom binding projects. It can also be used to bind smaller documents, thanks to 5 disengageable punching pins.
The punching pins on this book binder are made from cast hardened and heat treated steel. That, combined with a long leveraged handle makes punching through up to 20 sheets of 20# bond paper fairly easy. These same punching pins can slice through clear covers, binding covers, cardstock, poly covers and more. This makes custom scrapbook binding, photo album binding, cookbook binding and more very easy.
As mentioned earlier, coil supplies are readily available. The coils themselves come in a variety of colors, including popular colors such as black, blue, red, green and brown. Diameters range from 1/4\” (6mm) up to 1 1/4\” (32mm). While rare, Akiles claims this machine can be used with supplies up to 2\” thick for manuals.
One of the most impressive features with the CoilMac-ECI is the wide and powerful electric coil inserter. The inserter on this machine works with all coil diameters and spins coils through letter-size paper in just seconds. Simply insert the coil through the first few holes and let the electric coil inserter do the rest.
This is an excellent machine to have on hand for a bindery, copy center or even for a business that wants to bind reports and presentations. You will find the Akiles CoilMac-ECI at ABCOffice.com.
