How Hotels Use TV Systems

Modern hotels use televisions systems not only to provide entertainment, but also to offer information and services for their guests. TV systems can be used to order room service, book a table at the restaurant or access information about the local area.

Most hotels now offer flat screen televisions with high quality sound and vision in high definition to give guests an experience similar to or better than that which they would get at home.

Using television systems for in-room entertainment

The most basic way in which hotels use TV systems is to provide in-room entertainment for their guests. Some hotels only offer a few channels but most offer a range of satellite channels including sport and movie. Television system providers usually offer specific packages for hotels that include a range of documentary, entertainment, film, and sport channels.

Some hotels choose to provide movies via a pay per view scheme where guests can choose to pay for and watch a movie from the hotel’s library at any time they want, rather than having to wait for it to be scheduled on the television.

Music can also be supplied via the hotel television system either through radio stations or through a specially selected playlist and some hotels offer games that can be played using the remote control.

Using television systems for hotel services

If a hotel is using the television system for information, when guests first arrive in a hotel room, they will see a welcome screen with information about the hotel.

The hotel displays all its information to guests in an easy to access format by using a television system in this way. Guests can use their remote controls to view information about the hotel services and the local area.

In advanced systems, guests can also interact with the hotel’s services through their remote control using it to book room service, or book tickets for a local event through the concierge or set a wakeup call.

The TV system can also be used to check a room account and check out so that guests do not have to wait at the reception desk to check out. Messages can be left for guests via the television system, rather than the traditional method of using the hotel telephone.

Television systems can also be programmed to show the latest news or business headlines, or the local weather forecast to provide extra information for guests.

Television systems in public areas

Hotels also use television systems in public areas to enhance guests’ stays. Televisions are used in places such as in the reception areas to display information about the hotel and the surrounding area.

In bars and seating areas, television systems are used to show programmes that will suit the audience of the area. For example, if the hotel has a relaxed bar area, it may choose to show sports channels, or music channels, or in a foyer it may play a news channels.

Using television systems in these ways can assist a hotel in making their guests’ experience an easier and more pleasant one.
