Flying on WestJet is the Ideal Way to Fly
Westjet Airlines is the second largest Canadian airline. Westjet was founded in 1996, and since that time has expanded to service seventy-six cities in Canada, the United States, the Caribbean and Mexico. They began as a regional airline, serving Canada’s West. It is one of the only airlines in the industry which is not unionized. Instead it has a policy that employees are shareholders in the company, are part of a profit-sharing plan, and are routinely given free flights and health benefits. Keeping a happy staff translates to keeping customers happy.
The most popular destinations that Westjet flies are Las Vegas and Orlando. They carry more passengers to these destinations than any other Canadian carrier, flying non-stop from eleven Canadian cities. As well, they carry more passengers into Las Vegas than any other international airline. While on-board, passengers have access to live TV at their seats, an innovation brought to Canadian airlines by Westjet. The World Airline Awards went to Westjet in 2010 for #1 Staff Service Excellence, and for #2 Best Low Cost Airline.
If you are flying Westjet to Las Vegas, look for specials on hotels and cars if you book them together with your air ticket. You an often reduce the cost of your holiday significantly by booking them all together. Look for mid-week deals, if you are flexible on travel dates. Flights and hotels are less expensive mid-week than week-ends and you get the same service and enjoyment.
When you are in Las Vegas, there is more to do than visit the casinos, although one could get lost in the maze of downtown and underground tunnels. Get out into the air once in awhile, and just walk the strip and absorb the atmosphere. Las Vegas was invented in the middle of the desert, and continues to reinvent itself according to whatever whim comes to mind. You will never know if you are in Egypt or Paris or Disneyland or a great and grand circus dream. The magnificent lights can be seen for miles across the desert, and this is truly a city that never sleeps.
Just outside of town, however, are some of the most beautiful hiking trails you will find in the West. Red Rock Canyon offers trails for every skill level, and rock climbing is possible year-round. Zion National Park is about three hours east of the city, and has red rocks and petroglyphs, with many hiking trails. Down the road is Hoover Dam, which is worth a trip for the sheer magnificence of the project. Built during the Great Depression, the Dam across the Colorado River supplies the reservoir that keeps Las Vegas green. The Grand Canyon is only about four hours south, and well worth the drive if you have the time. Try to make it a two-day outing, though. Stop at Hoover Dam on your way to the Grand Canyon.
