What is Weekend Facelift? Is it Worth the Cost?
In the cosmetic business, marketers or service providers seek to find the best ways to attract customers. We hear so many promises, guarantees and new product or procedures offering to give us a better chance at regaining youthfulness. Some of these can lives up to their promises, while others do not quite give satisfactory results. So is a weekend face lift one such service?
Since we are in an age where people are seeking immediate results, seems like weekend face lifts seem to fit the bill. They are the new approach that is introduced by cosmetic surgeons which promise to give patients a rejuvenated and youthful appearance all in a weekend’s time!
Now who would not want that? When the typical face lift would take much down time, this weekend face lift promises to give you result at a fraction of the time and the cost. So there it is, the major benefits are that it less invasive and it is more economical, which are the exact concerns for many especially in this economic climate.
A weekend face lift is what is also called a mini face lift. It focuses on the areas such as the neck and the folds of the nose. Through smaller incisions the surgeon lifts and repositions facial tissues, sometimes with the help of endoscopic facelift technology. The skin is then repositioned properly with the use of very fine sutures.
But here’s the catch, the mini face lift works best for those patients who have minimal sagging and very fine lines. For those individuals who have pronounced sagging and deep wrinkles, you would need a more drastic procedure to erase effectively aging signs.
Even most doctors are sounding off on how the weekend face lift is being portrayed. Most of them say that the term used can be, somewhat, misleading. They see it as a marketing gimmick to attract people. In reality it really does not do that much if you are expecting to see the results similar to a traditional face lift.
Yes it is less invasive and it costs less but the work had done is more on a superficial level, compared to the traditional method which employs deeper plane surgery. But the problem with what most surgeons are putting across is that, it can work for all patients, when in reality it doesn’t, especially with patients who have deeper skin problems. Instead of cutting back on costs, it is in fact no longer economical because the patient would need another work had done to maintain that youthful appearance.
Some doctors even contests that even the use of the term is wrong because the natural swelling process and bruising which occurs thereafter would take more than a weekend to dissipate. You cannot really guarantee a weekend’s worth of recovery not unless you use non-surgical facelift methods such as Botox or thermage treatment.
But this is not to discredit the benefits of mini facelifts or “weekend facelift”. It can really provide improvement however the surgeon should clarify on that, and there should be proper patient selection and patient education. For those who doesn’t really require that much work but wants to erase the initial signs of aging, this procedure could be for them.
To some extent it creates a youthful change but it would be honest to say that the results will not be as dramatic as many expect it to be, compared to the traditional procedure. So now that you know, always demand for a clear and honest explanation on how the procedure will be conducted and how it can really improve your case in particular.
A weekend face lift will be worth your penny only if you have a minimal problem to begin with.
